Not the potato chips: For over 20 years, St. Mathias Church has been home to Miss Vicky’s, Westmount’s premiere preschool.
Vicky’s offers programs beginning with “Moms and Tots”, a twice weekly ½ day introductory program which seeks to expose children and babies from 18 months – 2 years to interaction with other tots, storytime, music, and free play.
The “Tots” program for 2-3 year olds consists of a half-day program from 2-5 days per week, and involves separation from parents, an emphasis on independence and interaction with other children, developing listening skills and the concept of sharing, as well as social, emotional, and language development, and building interpersonal skills. The Nursery program for 3-4 year olds is either half-day or full-day 5 days per week, and continues these base social skills, and also encourages the children to expand, work on projects, complete crafts independently, focus on sharing, etc.
Finally, the pre-K program for 4-5 year olds is a full day program entirely in French which introduces children to arts, crafts, music, computers, writing, outdoor play and field trips, to prepare them for integration into kindergarten.
Miss Vicky’s has a wonderful reputation for its grade-A teaching staff, and as it is located at the heart of Westmount, just a block away from Selwyn House and several other schools it is an ideal location for busy parents.
