Not-for-profit service for the unemployed: A Montreal based non-profit servicing youths (18-35) Youth Employment Services is an amazing resource for the unemployed. Ten Thousand Villages

5674 Monkland Avenue, Montreal, Quebec, H4A1E4

Rated this place:

“Commerce with a Conscience": With roots that extend back to 1946, Ten Thousand Villages is a not-for-profit fair trade organization that supports disadvantaged artisans. Established as a retail operation in 1996, Ten Thousand Villages supports third world communities by providing marketing and retail outlets throughout North America. With three locations in Montreal - Pointe Claire, N.D.G., and St. Denis, Ten Thousand Villages exemplifies their catchy alliterative slogan, “Commerce with a Conscience”. Try some Himalayan tea artfully presented in a hand-sewed satin brocade pouch for $7.00, or a bamboo picnic basket ($45.00) weaved by Bangladeshi artisans, hand-hammered dangling copper earrings from Kenya ($12.00), fabulous handmade wooden children’s toys and games ($8-$315), or channel the 100 Mile Diet with the “Simply in Season” ($21.00) cookbook. A wonderful place to find an eco-friendly or socially responsible gift for a special someone.
