Rainbow Cinemas

80 Front Street East, Toronto, ON, M5E 1T4

Rated this place:

Toonie Tuesdays: Who wants to give their money to big chains? Brave the lines at the Rainbow Cinemas on Tuesday nights and see the latest releases with just the change between your couch cushions. Think of the money you'll save (or, the money that you can take across the street and spend at the Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar - his restaurant is not braving well in these times, according to the Globe).

National Film Board Mediatheque

150 John St, Toronto, ON, M5V3E3

Rated this place:

Not-your-average Hollywood blockbuster: NFB Mediatheque is (ironically) located just across from a giant theatre that shows all the latest Hollywood blockbusters. A trip to NFB makes a fun and different way to spend an afternoon/evening and it’s a great alternative to your typical movie date. Whether you chose to watch one of the thousands of on-demand movies at their digital viewing stations on the main floor or see a scheduled screening upstairs, NFB offers lots of thought-provoking films, from shorts to documentaries. Great for stimulating interesting conversations. Their calendar of events is available online at http://www3.nfb.ca/mediatheque. Or you can visit their online screening room at http://www.nfb.ca.
