Red Pegasus

gift/novelty shop: Red Pegasus might be a tiny shop but that doesn't mean that there isn't a ton of great gift ideas here. I love the stylish housewares including kitchen accessories and unique coffee mugs. There's also toys for kids and cuddly stuffed animals, accessories such as hats, scarves and handbags, and a great selection of sterling silver jewelry made in-house and brought in from local and well-known designers. They've expanded their assortment of bath and body products as well, including items from Burt's Bees and Dirty Girl. A variety of quality greeting cards are also available.

Made You Look

a little gem in the city: Made You Look is one of the best places in the city to find unique jewelry. They have over a hundred local designers creating everything from beautiful diamond rings to fun fashion jewelry. Designers will also work with you to create your own original and custom-made piece. I love the variety and the prices. While some things are precious and will cost you, there's so much to choose from at this store that anyone can find something they like in their price range. Also, if you love artistic jewelry, this is the place to go.

ROM Museum Store

gifts, toys and more: You can get to the ROM's museum store on Bloor St. through the entrance to the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. The store carries a huge variety of gifts, home decor and housewares, jewelry, toys and games, themed T-shirts and items (from various exhibitions), as well as books, DVDs and posters. It's fun to browse at this store and admire all the unique pieces. Everything is also separated and arranged by theme, such as Asian-inspired art, dinosaurs and medieval toys for kids, as well as beautiful ceramics and glass from around the world. A very interesting and beautifully laid out store. Adults and kids alike will love it.

Trove

jewelry and accessories: This shop really is a treasure "trove", although it exists above ground. I have visited both locations -- this one and the store at 2264 Bloor Street West. I always gravitate toward the jewelry counter because they carry unique collections, by some well-known independent designers that are hard to find at other stores in Toronto. For example, I love that Trove sells Demitasse jewelry, a line inspired by lavish antique silverware and serving pieces, from Los Angeles-based designer Rachael White. Trove also has a great selection of scarves, wraps and purses. I especially like the evening bags and clutches by Lauren Henry. You'll also find shoes (from brands like Remix Vintage and Fly London) and one-of-a-kind clothing by local and international designers.

Eko

288 Queen St. W., Toronto, ON, M5V 2A1

artistic jewelry: Eko has a beautiful selection of jewelry. I would call it high-end fashion jewelry because you'll find a lot of standout pieces made with precious materials, stones and metals. The owner sells artistic and unique items from a variety of international designers and edits the boutique regularly, to always carry the latest trends. Some of the jewelry is pricey but once you fall in love with one of these one-of-a-kind, handcrafted works of art you won't mind spending the money. I have a few pieces from Eko that I've purchased over the years and I still love them. There's also a nice balance between funky and classic jewelry. For instance, you'll find chunky wood necklaces and fine sterling silver drop earrings.

Burst Flowers

198 Walnut Avenue, Toronto, ON, M6J2N6

local jewelry designer: Flowers and jewelry go well together at this little shop just off of Queen Street West. Most of the jewelry is by local designer Dayle Crawford, who's jewelry line Dac & Jac features fine and modern jewelry. He also creates beautiful flower arrangements as you might have guessed. All the jewelry is made of precious metals and stones including sterling silver and Swarovski crystal. The prices aren't that bad either or at least they are affordable. Burst also sells imported jewelry from Italy. It's one of my favourite places to find unique gifts. If you're getting flowers from here for your wedding, you might want to also pick up some earrings for your bridesmaids.
