I am an americano junkie - here's a quick roundup of some of my favorite coffee shops in the city

Dark Horse Espresso Bar

682 Queen St. E., Toronto, ON, M4M1G9

Coffee shop: They're always playing great music and the shop is bright and beautifully decorated. The communal table is a great idea. And, of course, the coffee is excellent.

La Merceria

Everything store: You could go to a other stores and sort through a million items looking for the right table setting or bed linens, but why bother when the perfect ones are waiting for you at La Merceria. They don't have a wide selection, but they don't need it when everything they carry is just want you wanted. I have no idea how I have never heard of this store until this week. It is now my go-to shop for anything I need for myself - or the perfect gift for anyone else.

Hank’s Café

9-1/2 Church Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5E1M2

I want to go to there: As a devotee of Manic Coffee, I was disappointed to hear that Jamie Kennedy had scooped up their award winning barista, Sam. That was before I got a new job steps away from his new cafe, Hank's.

Hank's is a fantastic little cafe dedicated to serving simple - but delicious - breakfast and lunch items. Nothing on the menu is over $7.50, but still manages to follow Kennedy's principles of using locally sourced, fresh, quality ingredients.

There isn't a wide variety of meals, but every item is perfected. And, of course, they have amazing intelligentsia coffee.

Hipster Haven: They have perfected the Americano and spoiled me from enjoying most other coffees.

The shop is beautifully decorated with lots of wood and exposed brick with a great collage of frames and cool photos along the wall. The crowd - and baristas - here are uber-hip.

They keep a great stock of interesting magazines.

Ella's Uncle

916 Dundas Street West, Toronto, ON, M6J1W1

Adorably cute coffeeshop: The decor is adorable and very chic. Also, their namesake drink - the Ella (Latte with two shots of espresso and sweetened with maple syrup) is a great way to start a weekend.

The lemonade is just perfect. Sour, lemony and not too sweet.

There isn't anything here that isn't fantastic. The berry scone and a double americano is my usual order but they've been mixing up new recipes lately. The more recent goat cheese and dill scone is phenomenal - I can't stop thinking about it.
