Family is the.best gift...so, plan him an eco-clever and fun-filled day! Brunch at the Drake on the patio, ice cream at Delight, a man-pedicure at Aliviar (or tour Mill Street Brewery if pedi is vetoed), dinner + music at the Gladstone or pick up his faves at Healthy Butcher & make a homecooked meal together! How about a Buddha Dog eating contest? Happy Local Father's Day!

fresh, fair-trade and organic ice cream!: It's worth the drive (so, not eco) to have this ice cream! ECO-ASPECTS: The flavours are ever changing based on what's fresh, the ingredients are fair-trade and organic and when you walk in the door and smell the fresh waffle cones being made, you will decide that sharing is not an option! If they were nut-free, it would be on my weekly to-do list!

LIVE TO EAT on Eglinton!: What a pleasure it is to shop on Eglinton West at the Healthy Butcher. Even though their store name implies meat, they are my stop gap measure in between farmer's markets for local and organic fruits and veggies, fish, cheese, bread and eggs. In a very small store (compared to a grocery store), you can buy everything from safe cookware, spices, organic condiments + flours, delicious artisinal cheese and crackers (monforte sheep's cheddar and evelyn's crackers...yum!), the best popcorn (passion popcorn from Ontario) and lots of nut-free and organic products (if you haven't already tried Mapleton's Organic Cappuccino Ice Cream, you must!). The staff are absolutely wonderful and very accommodating for any special requests. Even though there is no "easy" parking, it's easy in and easy out (they will carry their groceries to your car)...and open 7 days per week. 2 other locations also...it's worth the drive.

delicious + fun: Considering I don't really eat meat, and I don't eat white bread (or let my family eat), Buddha Dog has become the exception. The team at Buddha Dog is great...you can really tell that they are proud of what they are doing. "The idea was to bring together the best local suppliers - Farmers, Dairies, Bakers, Butchers, Chefs, etc - to make an exceptional hotdog and let it represent the best of their region and culinary tradition." And guess what? They succeeded. Games on the tables, stickers and crayons to keep the kids busy and a simple menu with so many toppings, you'll be happy an adult meal is actually 4 or 5 dogs so you can try many. Pretty eco-friendly for a hot dog!

A Hotel? It's so much more.: The Gladstone Hotel is a great place in Toronto for so many reasons, aside from being a hotel. They have created unique spaces for musicians, artists, foodies and families...to showcase, perform and indulge. They support and promote local and organic eating ( by the way they have a FRY BAR...sweet potato, potato and taro too with tons of toppings). Harvest Wednesdays supporting field to table eating (yum) are not to be missed...you can check their website at www.gladstonehotel.com for their complete calendar of events...and while you are there, you'll know why you need to try the Gladstone.

Mill Street Brewery

ORGANIC LOCAL BEER!: Not exactly family friendly, but certainly fun! Mill Street Organic is a favourite bottle, also available from The Beer Store, but way more fun to see, learn and ask direct at the brewery. Take a tour...but until they add more than organic beer battered fish on the menu, skip the pub and head home, crack open a couple cold ones and celebrate more local organic that's to come...with demand comes supply!

Mani + Pedi - safe for us and our world: Toronto's first organic and vegan spa, featuring 100% chemical- and synthetic-free, animal-friendly products (except the polish which happily has as few nasties as possible). What does all of this mean? Well, to start it’s actually healthy, and it’s baby/kid safe too. My favourite part (you’ll learn about me a bit here) was that the foot tubs were stainless steel sinks without the bacteria circulating jets! These are hands and feet you'll feel good about!
