With so many new restos popping up all over the city, it`s important to pay homage to those places that have stuck to their old-school ways.

United Bakers Dairy Restaurant

Greek salad: My mouth waters just picturing one of their old school waitresses placing a colossal tower of amazingness in front of me (get the large). The dressing is a delicious vinaigrette and the feta just seems to taste better at United. Be prepared to wait in line, and don't count on a quiet meal here. It's a loud and bustling place.

Golden Star Restaurant

7123 Yonge St, Thornhill, ON, L3T2A8

Burger joint, Hamburger: I've recently joined the Golden Star cult, and for good reason - this place rules! The atmosphere is very familial and there's no messing around with the food...the burgers are enormous and juicy, and the toppings are very fresh - note: the fried onions are hidden from the rest of the veggies but ask for them, apparently they're a welcomed addition to your burger.

It's perfection burger-fied

People's Foods Restaurant

Greasy brunch: This place is totally old-school...every table has a mini juke box! This family-run place has a great brunch menu (try the smoothies too), you can also see the cooks fry up the eggs and potatoes before your very eyes...an overall great diner experience!

Bagel World Coffee Shop

336 Wilson Av, North York, ON, M3H1S9

Bagel place: This place is traditional and reliable, two very important qualities in restaurant that specializes in bagels! But there's so much more to Bagel World than merely bagels - their spreads and platters are incredible, the eggs and onions are legendary, and the twister bagels are big enough to use as footballs. The Wilson location has recently been renovated but there's still an old-school charm to the place. The new Bloor (at Spadina) location seems to be attracting a younger clientele.

House Of Chan Steak N' Lobster

876 Eglinton Ave W, Toronto, ON, M6C2B6

Steak: It's one of the best steaks in the city, hands down. The steak is tender and flavourful and seriously filling. But don't just fill up on the meat - the Asian-inspired side dishes are all part of the experience. Pair your steak with Chinese goodies like Lo Mein and stir-fried veggies. The potatoes are also spectacular. This midtown steakhouse is certainly worth a visit.

Camarra's Pizzeria Ristorante

2899 Dufferin St, North York, ON, M6B3S7

Go.Here.Hungry: One of Toronto's most authentic Italian restaurants doesn't actually live in Little Italy but rather on an unassuming Dufferin strip between Eglington and Lawrence. If the impressive collage of sticker-awards that line Camarra's front door doesn't impress, the strong scents of garlic, herbs, and fresh hospitality are sure to whet your appetite. Camarra's is an all-around winner in my books. I had the whole-wheat spaghetti with their 'famous' marinara, and had the privelege to also try the most amazing gnocchi this city has to offer - picture fluffy cloud-like bundles of potato goodness immersed in a pool of meaty marinara. The bill isn't light - roughly $20 per entree - but it's worth every penny. You'll appreciate the old-style service and atmosphere, I'm sure of it.
