Aside from the fact that this tiny village shares the same name as the always-awesome 30 Rock genius Alec Baldwin, it's my home away from home. If Toronto were an Oreo cookie, Baldwin Village is its irresistible center. It offers a flurry of activity -- from trendy crowds on Queen West to bohemian artists near OCAD and the redesigned AGO.

Mural: Seeing this is just another reason why I love Baldwin so much. I had a friend who lived above this store with this beautiful Starry Night-esque mural. According to its website, this local, family business has been selling paints since 1929.

Organic food: This place is great, but not all of their dishes are organic. I ordered a set course dinner for around $22 (plus tax and tip) and the main entrée was organic Ontario rack of lamb. The portions were huge and delicious! I also hear that they have organic salads...

Cheap entertainment: I love it for being open to everyone and having kickass exhibitions (I missed Andy Warhol and was very sad). They are also free Wednesday nights.

First date: The first thing you notice once you climb the stairs and enter this ultimate chill-out joint is Louis Armstrong. (Just his voice, not his spectre.) Order their special hand-sewn "first date" blooming tea ball, and watch it literally blossom in your clear teapot. Taste and savour the jasmine and white tea flavours while sitting on the couch lined against the wall complete with fluffy cushions. If you're not able to take advantage of their free wifi, take any one of their mags for a quiet read and order some small dishes from their kitchen.
