I have a million favorite bookstores - all for different reasons.

This Ain't The Rosedale Library

483 Church St, Toronto, ON, M4Y2C6

Indie bookstore: I usually try to buy used books, but when I can't wait for a new release (usually McSweeney's) they always have it here. The upstairs space usually has some great readings and events also.

BMV Books

10 Edward St, Toronto, ON, M5G 1C9

Bookstore: It's an amazingly organized used bookstore that always has "like-new" copies of recent bestsellers at less than half the price.

Chapters

2225 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON, M6S1M7

Chapters location: The Runnymede branch is absolutely gorgeous. I love it when stores do a good job of keeping the original foundations of a building and making it work within its new purpose - rare in large chains. They even still have an old projector up for decoration.

Type Books

Indie bookstore: I know I have a lot of bookstore faves - I really like books - but I couldn't resist adding another. I don't know how I walked passed this store so many times without going in. Everything about it is perfect, right down to the graphic damask print on the walls. They have a well chosen collection of books with a great selection of design and children's books.

Wychwood Branch Public Library

1431 Bathurst St., Toronto, ON, M5R3J2

Public library branch: I'm a huge bibliophile and, as much as I love to buy books, I can't always afford as many as I'd like to read. This branch is not only close to my house, but a heritage site with beautiful architecture

The Monkey's Paw

1229 Dundas Street West, Toronto, ON, M6J1V9

Wonderfully Creepy: Stephen Fowler has amazing taste and a great shop. He takes the time to write his own little blurbs in many of the books. Ask about the mailing list - if you tell him what subjects you're interested in, he'll e-mail you when he gets in something he thinks you'd like.

After my first visit, it already became my favorite bookstore. There is no book (or "curiosity") in the store that I wouldn't want for myself. Amazingly eccentric collection. Excellent browsing venue.
