These restaurants and cafes are ideal for those with little kids in tow. From wacky pez dispensers in King West to falafel in Forest Hill, all of these places cater to a lively and budget-concious crowd.

La Paloma Authentic Gelateria & Cafe

Gelateria: It's simply the best! In the summer, I like to walk around the cute neighbourhood while I devour my gelato (often by the time I get back to the starting point I'm ready for another scoop of the chocolate chip gelato....my favourite flavour!)

United Bakers Dairy Restaurant

506 Lawrence Ave W, North York, ON, M6A1A1

Greek salad: My mouth waters just picturing one of their old school waitresses placing a colossal tower of amazingness in front of me (get the large). The dressing is a delicious vinaigrette and the feta just seems to taste better at United. Be prepared to wait in line, and don't count on a quiet meal here. It's a loud and bustling place.

Taste of Thai House

62 Vaughan Road, Toronto, ON, M6G 2N4

Rice paper wraps: Fresh lettuce and vegetables are neatly bundled together in a soft rice paper shell - delicious! They are a perfect appetizer for a pad thai, and their dipping sauce is super sweet. Get the chicken, there are some spices in there that will tantalize your tastebuds.

Tov Li

Falafel: I just had my first falafel from Tov Li yesterday and I actually can't stop thinking about it. Best falafel in the city and get it with the cabbage salad-y topping.

Sadie's Diner

504 Adelaide St. W, Toronto, ON

Breakfast burrito, Old-school diner ambiance: It's a nice combo of fluffy eggs, veggies, and salsa. If you are going to eat one (which I highly recommend) be prepared to commit at least six hours to being completely full...I personally like that guarantee in a breakfast!

You feel like you've entered a time warp when you walk through Sadie's door...from the tables to the unique assortment of pez dispensers, this place sold me before I event tasted the food.

Pickel Barrel

2300 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON

Chicken angel hair pasta: There's just something about this pasta that has me constantly craving it! It could be the enourmous portion - or the sweet tomato sauce - or the soft, seasoned chicken - or the julienned veggies - or the reasonable price....it may not be the most gourmet dish in the city but if you're feeling like a big pasta and a small bill go here.

Johny Banana

181 Bathurst Street, Toronto, Ontario, M5T 2R7

Large burrito: One word: heavy. I was nervous the small wasn't going to satiate my lunchtime hunger so I opted for the large and it was the perfect daytime mini feast. I got the chicken on whole wheat, perfectly grilled with perfectly delegated veggies and rice...I overestimated the spice level and will kick it up to a level four next time.

Salad King Restaurant

335 Yonge St, Toronto, ON, M5B1R7

Takeout spot: Salad King offers fast, affordable, and incredible Thai cuisine. It's often bustling with Dundas-Square-ers and local students...I recommend skipping the crowd and grabbing some takeout, but either way the food is just amazing.

Mashu Mashu Mediterranean Grill

387 Spadina Road, Toronto, ON, M5P 2W1

Chicken pita, Mediterranean restaurant: I like to order all the necessary ingredients (chicken skewer, coleslaw, etc) and create my own chicken pita(s). All of their Mediterranean salads and toppings have a traditional flavour and the chicken is so tender...I want one right now!

I'm going on three days in a row of Mashu Mashu - that's right, a successful hat-trick - and for good reason! The food is fresh, authentique, and delicious. The Israeli salad deserves a notable mention, as does the grilled chicken skewer. Throw them in a pita with some hummus and you've got yourself a nutritious and enjoyable meal.

Reggie's Old-Fashioned Sandwiches

571 King St. W, Toronto, ON, M5V 1M1

Old Fashioned = New Obsession: If you`re like me and take your sandwiches and wraps seriously, then you`re going to love Reggie`s old-fashioned sandwiches. For less than $7 I was face-to-face with an insanely large smoked chicken wrap drizzled with mesquite-esque flavouring and sauteed veggies, all toasted to perfection. The fries are well-done and overflow the large container they`re served in - worth trying! The place is clean, hip, and above all else, very crowded. The perfect new addition to the King West strip, and open 24-hours! I`d expect to wait about 15 minutes for your lunch order - but Reggie`s natural buzz coupled with the loads of food being prepared before your eyes will be enough momentum to last you through the lineups.
