When Scarborough just doesn't have what we're looking for, my bf and I like to frequent with our friends. A lot of them we've discovered ourselves, and yes, we like buffets! Note of warning: some of these are more for a casual night out than for romantic dinners.

Buffet with all-you-can-eat sashimi: A magical, wonderful place where you can heap servings of all the regular Asian-style grilled dishes, dim sum, fried squid, fried rice, noodles, etc. AND order all-you-can-eat sushi, sashimi, maki, handrolls. The same rules still apply: make sure what you special order doesn't have any leftovers or pay the consequences (but buffet is no-holds-barred). Did I mention there's a chocolate fountain?

Fish restaurant: Cedar-planked, jerked, broiled, grilled, pan-fried, poached, lemon peppered or blackened: the options here at this casual fish house are endless. Much better than the bland dishes you'll find at Red Lobster, this place spices things up (sometimes literally) with lots of variety in its seafood menu. Great for dates or anyone avoiding fatty steaks.

Healthy alternative restaurant: If you're new to this place, the idea is unconventional. You customize your dishes by selecting the protein (or meats/seafood), vegetables and sauces to accompany them. Make an order of your protein choices to your server from the menu, which ranges from any type of beef, chicken, and seafood. Grab your order slip and pile your veggie selections buffet-style onto a plate, picking out anything from bean sprouts to red peppers. Finally, choose the sauce for the stir-fry and voilà, you're done!

Couches: Sometimes it's better to savour your food and conversation, and there's no better place to hang out with comfort than at Destiny's fluffy couches. Servers will provide you with as many mini-dishes as you'd like to order, with a broad selection from noodle soups to desserts. Just sit back, relax, and read a magazine or two.

10% entree, 90% dessert: My special dessert combination is take two waffle pieces, add whipped cream, powdered sugar, two scoops of cappucino ice cream, chocolate syrup, and peanut toppings. It might sound gross now, but it's delicious in my tummy, and I can always have second servings. This location is best, although there's a new location at 14th Avenue and 9th Line with less waiting time!

Same place, better service: My boyfriend and I love coming here because it's just like every other Mandarin but with faster service since it's fairly new. The servers are practically perched and ready to fill your glasses with water or to clear your plates. Come here any night and don't worry about any long lineups. Another perk: fancy hand dryers in the bathroom!
