Not all sushi joints are made the same -- whether it's a signature dish, outstanding decor, or really good deals, each place offers something distinctive you can't quite find anywhere else.

Buffet with all-you-can-eat sashimi: A magical, wonderful place where you can heap servings of all the regular Asian-style grilled dishes, dim sum, fried squid, fried rice, noodles, etc. AND order all-you-can-eat sushi, sashimi, maki, handrolls. The same rules still apply: make sure what you special order doesn't have any leftovers or pay the consequences (but buffet is no-holds-barred). Did I mention there's a chocolate fountain?

Scarborough sushi joint, Spicy salmon maki: It's hidden away at Midland and Ellesmere in Scarborough, but word of mouth has made this place very popular. Not only do you have great service, but there are always complementary appetizers provided as well -- edamame, mackarel, and seaweed with hot sauce.

The pieces themselves are average, but the spicy, minced salmon topping punches you in the mouth.

Lunch bento: They have good lunch specials for takeout when you need to get back to the office. Love the Gal-bi (or is it kal-bi?) and spicy salmon is always my fave, no matter where I go.

All-you-can-eat sushi: During the spring and summer, my friends and I sit on their patio scribbling out our endless flow of orders. Their food is good, but most of my affection for this place stems from my love for the peaceful street itself.

Sushi On Bloor

Sushi pizza: Great portions and I love the texture and slight crunchiness to the sticky rice! Order it in salmon or tuna, you won't be disappointed!

Cheap sushi: I couldn't believe that I could get 8 pieces of salmon sushi, a small box of chicken, and miso soup for $8. Pay with cash for speedy service, and don't worry about the long lineups -- they go at a steady pace so you don't wait for too long.
