Re: Fave fish sandwich at The Fish Store

Miki was talking about this place on Saturday night. Sounds amazing! I'd always noticed it, but had never tried it. It's on my list now! : )

  • Cool fave!

Well look who's back and favin'. Just so you know, I saved ALL THREE of your new faves. Maybe we should all actually go out and eat some of them together. How's that for an idea?

The Fish Store
657 College Street, Toronto
It's freakin' dynamite. You pick your cut of fish from filets on ice. It's seasoned, grilled, and dressed right there. It's the Caddilac of fish sandwiches. Lobster sandwich is $11.50. Nuff said!

kim asia cuisine
6 St. Andrew St., Toronto
everything I've eaten there has been suspiciously top-notch. The pho is crazy good, as is the braised duck leg noodle soup. The main attraction is a fish tasting menu for 2. Fish and seafood are prepared 7 different ways, including thai curry, bbq fish cold rolls, and grilled fish on cracker. And the prices are equally chin-scratch inducing. I always look for hidden cameras when they bring the bill.

United Bakers Dairy Restaurant
Lawrence Plaza, Toronto
5 of us split a $9 large salad and were stuffed. It's an untraditional (unorthodox?) Greek salad...sure there's lettuce, cukes, olives, and feta. But the spices in the dressing resemble zaatar, a middle-eastern spice blend. It's so bomb, just try it!

Gryfe's Bagel Bakery
3421 Bathurst St, Toronto
it brings back memories of waking up on Sunday morning, opening my front door, and sitting there would be a bag of steaming hot bagels that my grandfather dropped off before any of us woke up! That, and it's the best bagel in the world. Fluffy, crunchy, salty, and toasty all in the right places. Try the weird little pizzas, too.

Johnny's Hamburgers
2595 Victoria Park, Scarborough
There are things to look out for when picking burgers: team shots of amateur hockey clubs on the wall, colours you've only seen at your grandmother's house, and photos of the owner posing with C list celebs from 20 years ago. Johnny Burger has at least 2 of the 3. If you're there I recommend the cheeseburger, onion rings, and coke.

Bloor Cinema
506 Bloor Street West, Toronto
Fave Picture Rue Morgue's monthly film series is home to horror junkies and the curious alike, culminating in a very active viewing experience. It's more of an event than a regular night out at the movies, with lots of rare 35mm prints and special guests. And popcorn is cheap at the Bloor.

Big Frank's
780-790 Steelcase Dr., Toronto
Fave Picture Sausages, hot dogs, peameal, smoked turkey, all made on premesis. The front is counter service, offering veal, chicken, beef, and pork dogs. The back is...well, who knows what exactly goes into hot dogs. I bet Big Frank does. Bonus points for zucchini relish.

Fave Picture I get to rub shoulders with horror movie legends like George A. Romero and Dario Argento (pictured). The fest is partnered with the Hobbystar Fan Expo, which is a ginormous convention that caters to lovers of anime, comic books, and sci-fi- so if an evil Klingon steals your lunch money, a Jedi is never far, far away. Or you could just tell his mom to get it back for ya. Either way works.

Sky Dragon Chinese Restaurant
280 Spadina Av, Toronto
Fave Picture Because I'm a sucker for cart service, and its cheap and fresh. In my estimation, dim sum is Cantonese for "eat this 3 times a week with your comedian buddies".

Kom Jug Yuen Restaurant
371 Spadina Av, Toronto
Fave Picture Yes, the bathroom is gross, the window display is unappetizing, and the decor is dull. Survive those obstacles and the Holy Grail awaits, in the form of their BBQ pork. Owner Ping Yip sells his BBQ ducks to competing joints, who sell them as their own. A family fave for 30 years
