Fun Store Features All Prices, Many Basics

Fun Store Features All Prices, Many Basics: I'm not a fan of flavor-of-the-month toys. I much prefer classic toys or modern variations on those kinds of toys: arts and craft supplies, building/construction toys, well-made baby and toddler toys, etc. You'll find choices galore (including some surprisingly affordable options) at this fun and funky shop. Not to be missed: the art supplies corner + the off-to-camp supplies. One suggestion: Hope to see more green toys/products the next time I drop by.

Riverview Park and Zoo

Rated this place:

1230 Water Street, Peterborough, ON

A Free Zoo featuring Its Own Train: When I first moved to this area, I was astounded to discover that Peterborough has its own zoo -- and that you don't have to pay to get in. (Local taxpayers pick up the tab on their utility services bill: unusual and cool.) The playground is state-of-the-art, featuring a spray-pad that keeps the parking lot full to overflowing on the hottest days of summer. You can even take a train ride across the river with your kids. (Check http://www.peterboroughutilities.ca/Park_and_Zoo/ for train schedule).

Cora's Breakfast & Lunch

Rated this place:

1865 Lakeshore Road West, Mississauga, ON, L5J 4P1

Fabulous Spot for a Family Brunch

Fabulous Spot for a Family Brunch: If you're looking for a spot to take your in-laws or your parents for a special family brunch, you can't beat Cora's. The menu offers everything from ultra-healthy to truly decadent fare. The presentation is amazing. (Think art on a plate.) Portion sizes are very generous. (Seniors and kids will have some to take home.) Prices are reasonable for a luxury breakfast (average $10 per person). Highly recommended.

Jack Darling Park

A Family Getaway in the the Big City

A Family Getaway in the the Big City: I grew up within walking distance of this park, so I spent a lot of time exploring its many wonders as a kid. The park features walking and biking trails and a huge strip of beach. If you walk to the western-most extreme of the park, you can hike into the Rattray Marsh, a gorgeous conservation area. The park features picnic areas, comfort stations, playground equipment, and a splash pad. It's a popular place for group picnics. (You need a permit to reserve space for more than 25 people. Visit www.mississauga.ca for details.)
