Phil's Original BBQ

Rated this place:

838 College St, Toronto, ON, M6H1A2

Bbq ribs, Pulled pork sandwich: Great authentic Southern ribs that are actually cooked in a smoker.

They really smoke the meat here, there is a big old smoker behind the restaurant, everything tastes like it was really smoked, not like many places that pour a smoke flavor seasoning on everything. The pulled pork has always been excellent here, lots of meat on a great bun, served with beans

Reliable Fish & Chip

Rated this place:

954 Queen St E, Toronto, ON, M4M1J7

Fish and chips: Great halibut, the fries are hand cut and perfect. They were on Restaurant Makeover a while back, the best thing they did there was put malt vinegar spray bottles at each table. Be sure and order a side of coleslaw

Rated this place:

749 Broadview Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M4K 2P6

Fish and chips: Fantastic new twist on fish and chips, your choice of batter. I had the jerk batter, it was really good, next time I plan to try the cajun batter. Choice of regular or sweet potato fries as well. Very friendly people running the place too.

Laila

Rated this place:

553 Bloor St. W., Toronto, ON, M5S1Y6

Chicken shawarma, Samosas: Great chicken, rather than the regular spinning cooker, they grill the chicken, nice change

Only place I've ever been that has samosas straight out of the fryer, they are really good, so much better than the reheated ones most places serve.

Sarah's Falafel & Shawarma

Rated this place:

487 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON, M5S1Y2

Chicken shawarma: These guys have the best chicken shawarma I've ever had, it's really dry, for some reason that makes it taste fantastic. Oddly enough I'm not a huge fan of their falafel

Eton Tavern

Rated this place:

710 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON, M4J1L1

Cheap comedy club, Comedy club, Comedy event, Comedy open mike, Tuesday night date: Every Tuesday Jo-Anna Downey hosts the best free open mike night in the city. Headlining comics drop in all the time to try out new jokes on a smaller crowd, recent bigger names who have dropped in include Mike Wilmot, Nikki Payne, Kenny Robinson, Mark Walker, Ron Josol. Very friendly crowd, and a different setting to see comedy (comedy with a rail)

Not a traditional comedy club, but every Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. it's the best open mike in the city

Tuesday night open mike is the best, top comics from across Canada

Every Tuesday night Jo-Anna Downey hosts the best open mike night in the city. If you are seeing a comic at Yuk Yuk's on the weekend, chances are they tried out the jokes they are telling the previous Tuesday at the Eton House. A great mix of seasoned pro comics and brand new comics just learning the ropes. The best part of it is that there is no cover charge, yes it's free!

Standing on the Danforth with Jo-Anna Downey is a super comedy show, great for a date
