Mr Greenjeans Restaurant

Rated this place:

Toronto Eaton Centre, 220 Yonge St., 4th Floor, Toronto, ON, M5B2H1

mall food that isn't the food court: My friend and I have an unspoken tradition where every Christmas season, we end up at the Eaton Centre doing last, last, LAST minute shopping. It's always packed, and we always regret the decision. To make ourselves feel better, we always go to Mr. Greenjeans for chicken fingers and sweet potato fries.

Frankie Tomatto's

Rated this place:

7225 Woodbine Ave, Markham, ON, L3R1A3

Italian Buffet: If you're hungry and are a carb fiend, then Frankie Tomatto's is for you. They have a great setup inside so that it doesn't look like every other buffet out there. There's a main drag, kind of like a main street in an Italian village, where there are different stations for foods like pasta, seafood, pizza and dessert. It's definitely a unique experience, one that kids especially enjoy.

Jerusalem Restaurant

Rated this place:

955 Eglinton Ave W, York, ON, M6C2C4

Middle Eastern Food: My family comes here often because it's one of the few places where my vegetarian brother can have options more interesting than a veggie burger. Even when we order the dinner for four menu, there's something for everyone to enjoy. My favourites are the fried eggplant and fried tomato dishes. I love how they can take ingredients that are so ordinary and transform them into flavourful indulgences.

Patachou Patisserie

Rated this place:

1120 Yonge St, Toronto, ON, M4W2L6

Bakery: Everything about this place is quaint -- from the great location to the homey decor to the delightful staff. When you peer into the glass case at all the beautiful pastries and sandwiches, it's always a heartwrenching choice to make.

Alice Fazooli's! Italian Grill

Rated this place:

294 Adelaide St. W., Toronto, ON, M5V1P6

Italian Restaurant: I don't know if I went to the restaurant on a day where they forgot to stock flavour in the kitchen, but I found everything here to be really bland. Everything from the calamari appetizer to the fettucine alfredo main course was lacking in the taste department. I know Italians can do better than that. Maybe they ran out of salt?

All Star Wings and Ribs

Rated this place:

9255 Woodbine Avenue Unit 11, Markham, ON

Wings: This is my favourite place to get wings in all of the city. They have more than one hundred flavours but I gravitate to only one. The mighty Hail Caesar. The wings are doused in caesar dressing and dusted with parmesan cheese on top. For those who like their's hot, try the suicide wings. If you can eat a whole basket of the spicy fare, you walk out of the restaurant with a free t-shirt and a spot on their wall of fame.

Sephora

Rated this place:

220 Yonge Street (Eaton Centre), Toronto, ON, M5B2H1

The essentials: I like the Sephora line of makeup tools. Their brushes are high-quality and priced affordably. And the selection is huge. If there's anything you ever thought you'd need a brush for, Sephora carries it. I also go nuts over their rubber hair ties. They come in black and brown and last forever -- way longer than your standard Goody elastics.

Swiss Chalet

Rated this place:

7359 Woodbine, Unionville, ON, L3R1A7

Rotisserie chicken: Their rotisserie chicken and dipping sauce is my comfort food. There's just something about its simplicity that I love. And I admire their willingness to expand their menu offerings by adding ribs and shrimp into the mix. There's always something new to try, and I've seldom been disappointed.

Craft Burger

Rated this place:

573 King St. West, Toronto, ON, M5V1M1

Burgers: I've only sampled this place once, but I liked what I tasted. I went with a plain ol' burger with no fancy tricks. What was I thinking? Nevertheless, I enjoyed the juicy patty and handcut fries. I think next time I'll live on the edge a little more and go for the gourmet burger with avocado and cheese.

Vera Wang Bridal Salon

Rated this place:

38 Avenue Road, Toronto, ON, M5R 2G2

Wedding Dresses: When I was helping my cousin pick out her wedding dress, we made a stop here. Because after all, if you're a bride, Vera Wang is your high priestess. The sales ladies in the salon were very accommodating and took their time with us. Even though my cousin only tried on three dresses, we were inside for more than an hour.

Abercrombie & Fitch

Rated this place:

220 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON, M5B 2H1

Overrated clothing: I'm not going to lie. I used to covet everything Abercrombie put out. Even before their stores came to Canada, I'd sit on their website and salivate over the ripped jeans, puffer vests and polos. I've since grown out of the store probably because it's hard to get excited about something when you have to stand in line for 15 minutes to try on jeans in a store that's giving you a perfume headache.

Congee Wong Restaurant

Rated this place:

8390 Kennedy Rd., Markham, ON, L3R0W4

Chinese Restaurant: It's amazing that this place is open until 3 a.m. You never know when the urge for fried rice and garlic bok choy will hit you, so it's good to know that there are options out there. The best thing about Congee Wong is that you know the quality will be consistent every day of the year and at any of their locations. It's uncanny, really.

Il Fornello

Rated this place:

576 Danforth Av, Toronto, ON, M4K1R1

Italian Restaurant: I really enjoy their lunch buffets because it's all the food you would have considered ordering but in copious amounts and greater variety. I love their herbed chicken and roasted potatoes. And their pastas have yet to disappoint.

Johnny Rockets

Rated this place:

22 Dundas, Suite E, Toronto, ON, M5B 2L6

Diner: I don't usually eat burgers, but I can't help it when I come here. I feel like it's my duty. Their onion rings are awesome and so too is the fact that they draw a happy face with ketchup on a little side dish. It's the little things. The only thing is, I feel sorry for staff when they have to drop everything they're doing to perform a dance for the patrons. After you see it twice in one sitting, it just makes you feel bad.

Mamma's Pizza

Rated this place:

420 Hwy 7 E, Richmond Hill, ON, L4B3K2

Pizza: I'm a fan of this place because while their food is cheap and fast, it tastes like what you'd get at a higher-end Italian restaurant. Their thin crust pizza is always piping hot and their pasta, perfectly al dente.

Mandarin Restaurant

Rated this place:

200 Queens Plate, Rexdale, ON, M9W6Y9

Chinese Buffet: Chinese buffets are always wasted on me because I always gravitate towards the things I love and eat only platefuls of that. "That" being fried chicken and fried rice. I must vouch for Mandarin, however, in this department of fried food wonders. I'm sure they do a decent General Tso's chicken and can roll a fine salmon sushi, but their fried chicken wings are feats of culinary wizardry.

Milestone's Grill & Bar

Rated this place:

132 John St., Toronto, ON, M9N1J8

Appetizers: Their spinach and artichoke dip is what I come here for. And their grilled chicken caesar salad is a good follow-up. It comes with roasted garlic on top. So good. Their food is consistently delicious.

Moxie's Classic Grill

Rated this place:

100 City Centre Dr, Mississauga, ON, L5B2C9

Dessert: I can think of worse ways to expend my daily recommended caloric intake than on their white chocolate brownie and/or (usually and) banana caramel xango.

Pizza Pizza

Rated this place:

540 King Street West, Toronto, ON, M5V 1M3

Pizza: This is my Friday-night-watch-a-movie pizza. When I see that orange box, I know good things are to come. It probably has a lot to do with their dipping sauces. I hope that the reason they don't put the nutritional content on the labels is because there's no room, not because it is known to clog arteries.I always miss Pizza Pizza when I'm not in Ontario. I've always wondered why they don't expand into other markets that are otherwise crowded with Dominos and Little Caesars.

Rainforest Cafe

Rated this place:

3401 Dufferin Street (Yorkdale Shopping Centre), Toronto, ON, M3K1N2

Themed Restaurant: This is definitely a place to go if you have kids that you'd like to feed and entertain at the same time. If you don't mind listening to a thunderstorm every fifteen minutes and the sound of monkeys giving their mating call, the food might be worth it. They have the world's largest brownie on their menu that I advise you to ask for minus the singing.
