Mel's Montreal Delicatessen -- CLOSED

Rated this place:

440 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON, M5S1X5

Breakfast: You've never seen so much good food as the big baby breakfast. Where else are you going to get smoked meat with your eggs?

Rice Bar

Rated this place:

319 Augusta Ave., Toronto, Ontario, M5T 2M2

Sunday brunch: Delicious twists on the classic eggs benny are so refreshing... as are vegetables with brunch! Also, you have the option of having other Rice Bar specialites like fresh daily soups and rice puddings for dessert.

Angst Hair

Rated this place:

240 Queen St E, Toronto, ON, M5A1S3

Hair salon: I go here to get exactly what I want instead of trends and espresso. Everyone is really friendly attentive, and fun. The hair dye is Farouk Chi, which is nice because it's natural and doesn't choke you or irritate your scalp. And I'm never ever rushed.

Tutti Frutti Health Food Store

Rated this place:

64 Kensington Avenue, Toronto, ON, M5T2K1

Indie health food store: I come mostly for food stuffs and not supplements, and I love cruising the bulk bins. Not only are most of the bulk products a good deal, but they have almost everything under the sun in the way of pasta, rice, flour, sugar, coffee, tea, spices, and who knows what else. My new favourite item is Pumpkin Flax Granola - yum. Also, the owners are friendly and helpful with finding stuff when it's not too busy.

Sakura Korean Japanese Restaurant

Rated this place:

7 Spring Garden Avenue, North York, ON, M2N3G1

Sushi: The BEST Bento Boxes (with sashimi!). For under $10, you can get a box with 10 pieces of sashimi (decent quality), 6 california rolls, shrimp & vegetable tempura, salad, rice, and soup. They have 12 different boxes, all of which are great. Also, they always give you little free snacks for the table, including edamame and glass noodles, and some chunks of fruit for dessert.

The Red Room

Rated this place:

444 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON, M5T 2G8

Cheap eats: The food is wonderfully fresh and reasonably healthy, which is nice for cheap food. The beer is also cheap, if somewhat warm in the summer. But I can't say I go for the service (which is friendly, but sparse). The Green Room up the street at Bloor & Brunswick has a similar menu and prices (same owners).
