Yorkville

Rated this place:

Toronto, ON

Window shopping area: Lord knows I can't afford a LV purse or Prada shoes, but it's fun to look!

Madison Ave and Bloor

Rated this place:

Madison Ave and Bloor St W, Toronto, ON

Random book sale: There is a book sale here every Sunday in the warmish months. I picked up some amazing paperbacks in perfect condition over the summer...dirt cheap and the money benefits an elementary school...it's definitely worth checking out!

The Great Canadian Superstore

Rated this place:

2549 Weston Road, Toronto, ON, M9N 2A7

Grocery store: Because the Dominion on Bloor just doesn't cut it, and Whole Foods is damn expensive!

Value Village

Rated this place:

3130 Dixie Rd, Mississauga, ON, L4Y2A6

Used clothing store: The one in North York at Steeles and Dufferin has the most random things you'll ever find!

Village of Yorkville Park

Rated this place:

Cumberland and Bellair, Toronto, ON

Place to chill: It's a random sitting area similar to the rocks in Central Park, NY, where you can relax, people watch, or sit with a coffee. A great place to take a break while window shopping in Yorkville!

The Paper Place

Rated this place:

Paper: This store is too cool. Perfect for nerdy artsy types such as myself to oogle all the pretty patterns and textures, and a great place to get amazing gifts for anyone.

Berries & Blooms

Rated this place:

4700 Keele St #16, North York, ON, M3J1P3

Place to eat at york u: Even though the regular staff are perhaps the meanest, scariest people on campus, the food is fresh and always good. The salad bar is amazing, and the fruit bar is the perfect place to grab a snack. Try the smoothies! This place is great, though definitely on the expensive side.

Honest Ed's Ltd

Rated this place:

581 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON, M6G1K3

Cheap housewares: There is nothing not to love about Honest Ed's. Located on the corner of Bathrust and Bloor, the place is Toronto history! A charmingly old-fashioned store, shopping here makes me feel nostalgic and content. You can buy ANYTHING at Honest Ed's, and cheap!

Aren't We Naughty

Rated this place:

1300 Finch W, North York, ON, M3J3K2

Adult store: From lingerie to joke gifts to superthin condoms, this is a good place to go for all your "adult" needs - less touristy than the condom shack, with a good selection of fun and games.

Indian Flavour

Rated this place:

123 Dundas St. West. 2nd Fl, Toronto, ON, M5G 1C2

Hakka noodles, Place to eat at york u: Spicy and flavourful, the hakka noodles at Indian Flavour can't be beat.

I love the man who runs the shop, and the food is always good. Their samosas are awesome, but my favourite is the veggie special - rice, 3 veggies, naan and a samosa for about $7.

The Molson Amphitheatre

Rated this place:

Ontario Place, 909 Lakeshore West, Toronto, ON, M6K 3L3

Concert venue: The amphitheatre is perfect for summer concerts where you just want to grab a beer and rock out. Very casual and fun, but the lawn seats kind of suck. Bring your sunglasses - when the sun goes down over the roofless building, there is no seeing the stage clearly with bare eyes.

Yonge-Dundas Square

Rated this place:

40 Dundas Street West, Toronto, ON, M5G2C2

Grand Hotel & Suites Toronto

Rated this place:

225 Jarvis St, Toronto, ON, M5B2C1

Hotel bar: If you're looking to get classy in a not-so-classy part of town, hit up the hotel bar in the main floor of this hotel. If you stay overnight, check out the rooftop hot tub and two storey pool.

Danforth Music Hall

Rated this place:

147 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON, M4K1N2

Concert venue: The Music Hall has got a lot of history and character, and beats the hell out of some of the shiny new venues in town. Built in 1919, the music hall is a beautiful place. It's perfect for acoustic shows and the architecture is gorgeous.

Royal Ontario Museum

Rated this place:

100 Queens Pk, Toronto, ON, M5S2C6

Tourist spot: They have amazing art and cultural exhibits along side old favourites like the batcave and the dinosaurs. I myself am obsessed with the mummies in the Eqypt section - you can see the hair! The toes! Oh my. The new interactive area for children is really great if you have kids or young relatives, and the giftshop is a good place to pick up unique gifts. Only $10 to get in on Friday evenings after 4:30, the perfect place for a nerd date!

Casa Loma

Rated this place:

1 Austin Terr, Toronto, ON, M5R1X8

Tourist spot: The secret rooms and the maid's staircase were highpoints of my childhood. It's still nice to wander around the gardens and admire the gorgeous architecture of the castle. Touristy for sure, but still a favourite of mine.

Pickle Barrel Restaurant & Catering

Rated this place:

2300 Yonge St. (Yonge-Eglinton Centre), Toronto, ON, M4P1E4

Restaurant: I love the Pickle Barrel. You can show up in jeans and runners but still sit down with some mood lighting, relax and have a decent meal. Not exactly a romantic hotspot, but not the worst place for a date either. A good place to go with friends or family, and lots of variety on the menu. Good prices and huge portions, nice drinks, fantastic desserts. If you're going to a big chain restaurant, this is the one to go to.

Burrito Fresh

Rated this place:

208 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON, M5S3B4

Burrito: Huge, delicious burritos stuffed with your choice of fillers. T vegetarian and meat filled alike are very tasty, and the combo is a pretty good deal - a lot of food for under $10. Right across the street from the ROM's new Cristal building, the decor is kitschy and cute and the guacamole is fantastic. A great place to grab lunch with friends or chill after an afternoon at the museum.

Queen's Park

Rated this place:

University and Wellesley Aves., Toronto, ON, M5H2N2

Place to chill: I like hanging out on a bench here on sunny afternoons or crisp fall evenings. It's a nice place to chill out with a book and unwind amid the chaos of the city. Small and not exactly quiet (a lot of traffic goes by, for obvious reasons) it is not exactly a picnic spot, but still a nice respite in a hectic part of town.
