Loot Lady a real charm to deal with

Loot Lady a real charm to deal with: I went for a walk along the Lakeshore today and passed by the Loot Lady store. The store caught my son's attention so we decided to stop in and see the place. Carol (aka "The Loot Lady") and her husband Bob were very friendly and showed us around their store. Carol indicated to me that she has over 25 yrs experience with children and toys as an ECE college teacher, daycare supervisor and party playground owner. Her store is absolutely beautiful and award winning.... They have just won the "Gem of the Lakeshore" award this year. Loot Lady has also just been featured in the Shoestring Shopping Guide. I went to their web site tonight and was impressed by the long list of customer appreciation notes regarding their service, quality of loot bags and speed in which they are delivered. In store, there are well priced toys and a huge assortment of items for party bags. If you want to buy a gift for a birthday party they provide free wrapping (always helpful for busy parents!). This is a family business and certainly worth checking out... You can visit online at their web site http://www.lootlady.com/ or in person at the store - 3029 Lakeshore Blvd. West.

Mosiac Viet Thai

Rated this place:

769 The Queensway, Etobicoke, ON, M8Z 1N1

Etobicoke Eats Review Mosiac Viet Thai: Mosaic on the Queensway - Newly opened. Viethai place with a wine bar aspiration. Owners have definately made an effort to "style up" the joint with contempory Asian-esque decor. It is an appealing and soothing atmosphere. I chose one of the daily lunch specials, "Chicken with vegetables in garlic oyster sauce". the special came with a choice of soup or salad - opted for the soup as I almost always will in a Asian restaurant. It was a fish-roe soup, interesing - had a salty, yet sophisticated taste, was quite granular due to the roe - perhaps not for everyone but I quite enjoyed it. The main dish was an attractive plate of seasonal veg with stirfry chicken - tasty. The accompanying rice was top notch - rice quality is very important an Mosaic has made the extra effort here. Also shared some spring rolls - rather mediocre. Pleasant service - I look forward to trying again. Mosaic offers take out, delivery and daily specials. www.etobicokesouth.com

Rated this place:

1500 Royal York Rd #32, Etobicoke, ON, M9P3B6

Etobicoke Eats Review Mayflower Chinese Food: Called in an order for pick up from the road of an old favorite.... Mayflower Chinese Food at Royal York Plaza. Grabbed the "Mayflower Special"; chow mein, stir-fry vegg, steam rice and of course, chicken balls. All was delicious and perfectly cooked, it gave for days - this place hasn't changed in 30 years. Is there really a need for that quantity of super sweet red fluid? Fortune cookies predictions weren't possible - still, legendary! Price: approx. $30, chop sticks .50 cents extra Rating: A www.etobicokeeats.com

Bua Thai Restaurant

Rated this place:

753 The Queensway (at Royal York), Etobicoke, ON, M8Z 1M8

Great Thai Food: Bua Thai - West Side Bua Thai is located on the Queensway, near Royal York. This is bloody good Thai food!! Pricing is decent and efficiency is high. The Thai Mango salad has just the right amount of spice heat and the grilled beef salad is my kind of savoury taste. The Mrs. enjoys a classic order of Pad Thai noodles and when I can bamboozle her into sharing, I enjoy aswell. Well run, well priced - reliable and fresh, Bua Thai is a definate asset to the area. Kingsway Theatre

Rated this place:

3030 Bloor St W, Etobicoke, ON, M8X1C4

Kingsway Theatre - a real movie experience

Kingsway Theatre - a real movie experience: Kingsway Theatre recently reopened in the Kingsway Neighbourhood - http://www.kingswaymovies.com. It is located at Royal York and Bloor in the City's west end. The theatre is the best of both worlds, it is close to the suburbs but also very close to downtown. It is on the subway line (20 minutes from downtown) and yet very easy to drive and find parking (parking lot is behind theatre). The location has been around for a long time, it is your traditional fifties style theatre yet it has been renovated to make the theatre going experience current and comfortable. The concession stand is well stocked and run by nice staff. The washrooms are super clean (always a rare pleasure) and so is the theatre itself. The Kingsway Theatre plays current movies and the best thing about it is that you aren't crowded, running to find the correct theatre, with only a minute spare as you sweat, with your popcorn flying. The Kingsway Theatre has a variety of movies with a number of shows playing per day. There are children's movies on the weekends (matinees) and the theatre will soon be playing Movies for Mommies where you can bring your baby and watch movies in a baby friendly environment. A lovely luxury for new moms. And you know the owner... he is on facebook, his name is Rui and is very nice, extremely approachable and friendly. He is always open to suggestions. He has a facebook page http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=53519822002 The facebook group page is interactive, he responds right away to any questions. So, bottom line, if you want to see a movie, do yourself a favour and treat yourself to the Kingsway Movie Experience... at recession prices ($2.50 less then commercial theatres)... it is well worth the journey... no matter where in Toronto you are. After you see a movie, stick around and explore the many pubs and restaurants of the Kingway (we have the best options)... great for date night. Reviewed by theatre goer - Etobicokesouth

Royal Pizzeria

Rated this place:

667 The Queensway, Etobicoke, ON, M8Y1K8

Etobicoke Eats Review Royal Pizzeria: Antonio's Royal Pizza and Pasta Antonio's Royal Pizza and Pasta is nestled right in the guts of the Queensway action - just east of Royal York. It has a glorious sign announcing it's presence looming out onto the street luring you in with the suggestive promises of saucy tomatoey delights. Royal Pizza has a great down to earth appeal and an atmosphere that would be comfortable to almost everyone. The menu is refreshingly traditional Trattoria loaded with the stuff that makes us all fall in love with Italian fare. Had the Pizze Pecorino (Black Olives / Herbs) and the Veal Pizziola (Green Olives / Rich Tomatoe onion sauce) - accompanied by Cesar Salad and Side Spaghetti. All tasty, simple and easy - exactly what we were looking for and the prices are very fare. The staff took good care of us, even caught a glimpse of Antonio himself who seemed to be as at ease with his customers as he is in the kitchen. Well worth the visit. Price: Under $70 (with Cocktails, Wine and Coffees) Rating: B+ - www.etobicokeeats.com

Vince's Market

Rated this place:

3107 Bloor Street West, Etobicoke, ON, M8X 1E2

Vince's Market a Gem: Vince's Market - Bloor St. Just when you thought the Black Angus Steak House was the last outpost across the mighty Creek on Bloor, a bright new Oasis has emerged...Vince's Market. I enjoy the produce here - everthing is well displayed and nothing overwhelms. This seems to be a theme throughout the store - there's just the right amount of whatever you need and all of good quality. The staff are cordial and friendly - I saw one worker helping a woman shop for what she needed - he even checked that her eggs weren't cracked. Good selection of nuts, grains, breads, grocery, meat&fish, cheese and pre-whacked dinners and snacks made on site. Flowers and boutique sundries are smartly presented and in good order with the rest of the store - Vince's market is a gem. Price: high end of reasonable Rate: B++ www.etobicokesouth.com
