Title: From the Italian greeting by some of the best looking Romans outside of Italy, to the pure, intense, unadulterated flavours, Gelatiere is simply the best the city has to offer. Hollywood and La Paloma are catering to the kiddie set and their parents with flavours that are cloyingly sweet, unauthentic and just plain wrong (bubblegum does not belong). I wait all week for my Friday Gelatiere fix. Pure pistachio that tastes of fresh roasted nuts, deep dark chocolate spiked with intense chile peppers create a paradoxical simultaneous hot and cold sensation in the mouth, tiramisu that's dripping with marsala, the freshest lemon, puckery passion fruit or luscious plum with nary a hint of crystalization often found in the fruit flavours. Oh woe is me that today is only Tuesday!
