Golden Star

Rated this place:

7123 Yonge Street, Markham, ON

best burger in the city: It's the best by far. Nothing comes close. Best homemade burger of all time. Get the grape drink too. And you can't beat the service!

Cyber City Comix

Rated this place:

1025 Steeles Ave W #A, North York, ON, M2R2S9

McFarlanes: While their selection is limited, they are generally up-to-date with new sports figures, unlike many other places in Toronto.

Le Local (Montreal)

Rated this place:

740 rue William, Montreal, QC, H3C 1P1

Fine dining restaurant: I was recently in Montreal and had an amazing dinner at Le Local. The service was incredible, the food was very tasty, and the ambience was beautiful.

The Chocolate Tulip

Rated this place:

1251 Yonge St, Suite 102, Toronto, ON, M4T1W6

Flower shop: Their selection is beautiful, and Helen, the owner, is great. The price is right - and the Chocolate Tulip will always be extra-special to me because it is where I proposed to my fiancee!

Schwartz's

Rated this place:

3895 Saint-Laurent Boulevard, Montreal, H2W1X9

Montreal smoked meat sandwich: If anybody can advise me of a better late-night snack than a Montreal smoked meat sandwich from Schwartz's, I'd love to hear it. This place is legendary - and rightfully so.

Kiva's Bagel Bakery & Restaurant

Rated this place:

1027 Steeles Ave. W., North York, ON, M2R2S9

Twister bagel: While I despise actually eating at this joint, picking up their twister bagels was a daily thing for me at a point. I still prefer them over any other in the city, but don't get up there as much as I once did. If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend picking up some bagels to go - you won't be disappointed.

People's Foods Restaurant

Rated this place:

176 Dupont St, Toronto, ON, M5R2E6

Eggs and onions: This little joint offers quick and friendly service, great eggs and onions, and the homefries are great too.

Steve's Restaurant

Rated this place:

3788 Bathurst St., North York, ON, M3H3M9

Breakfast: This greasy spoon at Bathurst and Wilson is a must-visit, especially now that Victory Cafe has inexplicably shut down their brunch. I know the two are not even close in proximity, but if you're ever up in the area, you gotta go.

Victory Cafe

Rated this place:

581 Markham St, Toronto, ON, M6G2L7

Sunday brunch, once upon a time: 2 eggs, bacon (or the occasional fruit salad), homefries and beans don't get better. They just don't. Sunday, circa noon, is my time though....called it. Unfortunately, Victory does not serve brunch any longer (who knows why?!?!?!?!?!).

AMC Interchange 30

Rated this place:

30 Interchange Way, Toronto, ON, L4K 5C3

Movie theatre: The theatres are huge, the place is relatively new, the seats are comfy, and it is never too busy if you're willing to see a flick outside of opening weekend. Even if you go for opening night, the theatres are so big that you can be sure you'll get a seat.

Crazy Sushi York Mills

Rated this place:

808 York Mills, Toronto, ON, M3B1X8

Yaki udon: I'll make the trek up occasionally for a Crazy Sushi Yaki Udon - its that good. Their sushi is also very fresh and tasty.

Toys R Us

Rated this place:

290 North Service W, Oakville, ON, L6M2S2

Toy store: I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toys R Us Kid. Seriously though, I still go once in a while, for old time's sake, and there's something for everyone in there, no matter your age.

Hope Street Cafe

Rated this place:

324-326 Lonsdale Rd., Toronto, ON, M4V 1X4

Lobster and shrimp pasta: The lobster and shrimp pasta at Hope Street tastes amazing, it is an excellent portion, and it is a reasonable price - all important in my books.

Legends Of The Game

Rated this place:

322 King St W #A, Toronto, ON, M5V1J2

Baseball card store: While I grew up on Sluggers in Thornhill, Legends of the Game was a frequent visit after a Jays game at the Dome. While currently a shade of its former self, I can't help but feel nostalgic everytime I step foot in the store, and I feel like an 10-year old again when opening up dozens of packs of cards (all of which have no value these days, other than setimental).

Ki Restaurant

Rated this place:

181 Bay Street, Toronto, ON, M5J2T3

Sushi roll: The butterfish tempura roll is the single greatest roll this city has to offer. It literally melts in your mouth and is flavour heaven.

Pizza Banfi

Rated this place:

333 Lonsdale Rd #B, Toronto, ON, M5P1R3

Grilled calamari: The grilled calamari is done to perfection here, and is a great appetizer to accompany a solid Italian meal. Although there are other pizzas and pastas I prefer in the city, nobody's calami comes close!

Sonic Boom

Rated this place:

512 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON, M5S1Y3

Used dvd store: While the prices may not be the best in the city, they are usually competitive. For a used DVD/CD store, however, I have yet to visit a place with better selection. I'd love it if you could prove me wrong on the second point!

Utopia Cafe & Grill

Rated this place:

586 College St, Toronto, ON, M6G1B3

Burrito: Best chicken and shrimp burrito ever. Don't believe me? Try it yourself! Be forewarned, however: there are always lines at prime (and even off) times and the service is a little slow (although very nice), but the product is well worth the wait. Prices are extremely reasonable.

Butler's Pantry -- CLOSED

Rated this place:

813 Queen W, Toronto, ON, M6J1G1

French toast: The servings are huge and reasonably priced, the service is great, and the french toast is convered in tons of fresh fruit. All combined, the experience simply cannot be beat.

Ghazale Restaurant

Rated this place:

504 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON, M5S1Y3

Chicken shawarma: For a year and a half, I refused to eat here out of fear that my experience might ruin the temptation I get everytime I walk by them (best smell in the city, possibly world). Finally, I decided to give it a shot, and my life was changed on the eve of May 12, 2008. This spot has now become a staple in my late-night routine (along with everyone else in Toronto, apparently).

newtonbrook bowlerama

Rated this place:

5837 Yonge St., North York, ON

Bowling alley: Located just north of Toronto, at Yonge and Finch, many childhood days were spent at this bowling alley, and even now I'll make the trek back up north for a few frames. Your best bet is to go at night, for cosmic bowling, when the black lights are out, making for a wicked awesome time.

Tov Li

Rated this place:

Falafal: By far and away the best falafel in the city. Its a little out of the way for those who live downtown (located on Bathurst, north of Lawrence), but well worth the trek.

Massey Hall

Rated this place:

178 Victoria St., Toronto, ON, M5B1T7

Concert venue: Every seat is an amazing seat in this intimate, legendary concert setting. While I'd rather see an outdoor concert in the summer, I still get excited when I see that one of my favourite bands is coming to town and playing at Massey Hall!
