TUTS: Theatre Under the Stars at Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park is a great place to go during the summer months. The productions are very well-done and some recent improvements to the concession area have really improved the experience.

Toronto Botanical Garden

Toronto Botanical Garden: The Toronto Botanical Gardens, or Edwards Gardens, is open daily from dawn until dusk and admission is free (parking is free too). At the Western-most edge of the gardens, you’ll discover the teaching garden designed for young gardeners and a stage for many educational outings. The crops growing here are varied and gathered by topic (prehistoric plants grow around a metal stegosaurus) and have been mostly planted by students. The kids will love the bugs and butterflies the garden attracts. And the crops harvested here will go to a local food bank.

Ice Cream, Truffles & Coffee: This is a great spot (right next to Cava restaurant) - it not only has a wide selection of pastries, truffles, and great coffee, but it has amazing ice cream made with all organic dairy and super yummy ingredients. Their sorbet is both dairy and egg free!

Hip Baby: Hip Baby re-opened under new management recently (the same folks who created Fig Organic Kids Clothing), and it is an entirely new store. Not only can you now purchase your Fig clothing at Hip Baby, but you will be sure to find some great toys, gifts, and a wide-selection of baby and toddler essentials as well. They also have an extensive selection of cloth diapers, and conduct cloth diapering workshops at the store on a regular basis.

Trains & Farm Animals: A great way to spend a summer morning is to head to the Stanley Park train when it opens, take a ride (the kids will love it), then head to the children's farm to see and pet many different farm animals. Bring a picnic lunch because there is a great park nearby as well and lots of grassy areas to eat.

Duff's Famous Wings: This is definitely the best place for wings in Toronto which is good for the grown ups and the kids love it because they can eat with their hands! The after dinner lollipop is a perennial fave and there is always a supply of coloring sheets on hand. Take a trip to Hollywood Gelato up the street after dinner and you have a perfect family night out.

Forsythe Family Farm: Great for an after school outing. Kids of all ages can enjoy the farmyard playgrounds, tricky corn maze, hayloft jumping, and farm animals. Well-stocked market carries local grown produce, fresh eggs, their own chicken, pork and beef. Take a wagon out to the fields and pick your own pumpkins - priced by the pound. No outside food allowed at the farm. Entry price is cheaper during the week.

Strawberry Farm Fun: This charming family farm is 45 minutes from Toronto and nestled just below the beautiful Niagara Escarpment. Three dollars will get your kids into the fun farm area where they can see farm animals, play in corn stalk mazes, jump on huge hay-bale piles and dig forever in a giant covered sand box with lots and lots of dump trucks.The gourmet food selection is fantastic and diverse. For the kids, they have a Sandbox Special, which is a great lunch that comes in a pail and with a shovel for the giant sandbox.

Family Farm Fun : Pick-your-own fruits and vegetables spring (asparagus), summer (strawberries) and fall (pumpkins). Loads of entertainment for kids in the Fun Farm Yard - sand pile, barnyard animals, riding cars, and climber. No outside food or drink in the Fun Farm Yard, but there is a designated picnic area for you to enjoy your own food. If you don't feel like getting dirty, the farm market is open all season long, carrying seasonal fruits and vegetables and delicious home baked goodies.

We love the intimate family service but most of all we love the combinations of fresh homemade ingredients that go into making the best pizza pies in the GTA. Little Nest: This is a great cafe (open for breakfast and lunch) in the heart of the Drive - kitty corner from Grandview Park. They have amazing fresh baked goodies, coffee, brunch and lunch meals. Best part is that they have a fun play area for the kids, too. Funky atmosphere and lots of light. Small patio out front too

Munch Family Restaurant: This used to be Babyeats - it is now a full-service restaurant with a liquor license! It still has the awesome play area that Babyeats had, but it now has a full compliment of grown-up food (and great little people menu too). They also have a patio out front and are offering in-restaurant Nanny service on weekends (need reservation for that). It is definitely worth a visit.
