Sushi On Bloor

Rated this place:

515 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON, M5S1Y4

run-of-the-mill sushi: i don't get the whole big portions thing as a plus. sushi isn't meant to eat like a steak and potatoes dinner. If you want decent, relatively authentic sushi at reasonable prices, try toshi on king, or oishi kada in kensington.

CAKE!: tasty cakes. it could be a nice spot to take a date, but the bangin house music needs to go.

Tequila Bookworm

Rated this place:

512 Queen W, Toronto, ON, M5V2B3

Food menu? No thanks. : Fresh soup made from scratch isn't always a good thing. Maybe I hit an off-day, but the soup I had was lukewarm, watery and bland. Food took forever and was actually relatively overpriced for the quality. I think i'll head 2 doors down to epicure next time. Service was decent. Free wifi. Beer.

Reggie's Old-Fashioned Sandwiches

Rated this place:

571 King St. W, Toronto, ON, M5V 1M1

Deliciously 24 hours, but rather inconsistent: *update* Inconsistent. Where's the quality control? My wrap at lunch today was soupy and small. Disappointed. They need to get rid of whoever is in the prep line at lunch or teach her how to make a sandwich. Pronto. *old review* I've eaten at reggies over a dozen times since they've opened. Their pear cheddar salad is wicked as a side a yummy roast chicken blt, pacific smoked salmon, or pulled pork sandwich. great variety of healthy and not-so-healthy options attract quite a line-up at lunch. Still quite a few errors at the pick-up station, but overall improving very quickly. it's obvious the owners are passionate about making reggie's as great as it can be.

Squirly's

Rated this place:

807 Queen St W #A, Toronto, ON, M6J1G1

Grilled chicken wings.: I come here for the grilled wings and bean salad; Delicious when ordered spicy. A good variety of beers. Service is hit-or-miss on the back patio. Run-down pseudo-tiki decor is charming.

Boom Breakfast & Co

Rated this place:

808 College St. W., Toronto, ON, M6G1C8

The go-to?: Not sure why it's so popular. Brunch here is good enough. Yolk-yellow walls are inviting and sure to wake you up when you're hungover. Service can be a bit rude at times, but mostly tolerable. Fresh fruit paired with savory options is nice, but venture east, west, and south for plenty of the same... if not better.

Mill Street Brew Pub

Rated this place:

55 Mill Street, Building 63, Toronto, ON, M5A 3C4

Beer, obviously. : The beer is great. The food is so-so. Trio of dips was a mess, with poorly peeled carrots and unwashed celery sticks jammed into the sides of three pots... while the food itself tasted alright, the presentation in general could be improved. Cobb salad was massive. Service was pub service.

The Common

Rated this place:

1071 College Street, Toronto, ON, M6H 1B2

So close, so fast, so delicious.: Deliciously prepared coffees, capps, and americanos. Perfect service and affordable. Great little break while doing laundry next door. Apparently cheese and wine are coming, which means extended hours? Can't wait.

Gayley Cafe & Catering

Rated this place:

1424 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON, M6J1Y5

brunchers beware.

brunchers beware. : gayley's is at the foot of my street. I love going there for the peaceful, relaxing morning brunch. Quiet, slow-paced and decent food, though a touch on the pricey side. it's a fave during cold, rainy weather, but be careful. As soon as the weather gets nice; as soon as that first sunny warm break pierces through the clouds of winter, Gayley's is converted to a full blown, sticky floored daycare with double buggy strollers blocking the doors and screaming uncontrollable babies and children wall-to-wall. I don't know why the new parents love this place so much. it's tight, crammed, and not really that affordable. If you're hungover or just want a peaceful breakfast, just make sure you head somewhere where the yuppie baby back-seat bicycles aren't.

Niagara Street Cafe

Rated this place:

Sushi D

Rated this place:

671 College St, Toronto, ON, M6G1B9

AYCE is so-so. : A robust hot food menu including some of my faves: rock shrimp and a variety of terriyaki yumminess... But am i alone in thinking that the sushi all tastes the same? We tried desperately to order a variety of rolls, but felt like it was a sea of sameness. Same sauces, same textures, same flavors. Good if you feel like gorging, but not so great if you want a variety of carefully rolled, fresh tasting sushi.

Le Gourmand

Rated this place:

438 Richmond Street West, Toronto, ON, M5V 3S6

chocolate chip cookie. : is more like a chocolate chip cake. amazing. I've also been eating their lunch quite frequently. tons of healthy options, and tons of full blown entree options for big appetites. Well-priced and a fast-moving line.

Ka Chi

Rated this place:

8 St. Andrew Street, Toronto, ON, M5T2G4

Pork Bone Soup: Definitely my favourite pork bone soup. Quick, friendly service, decently prepared sides, and a great price point. Great spot if you're in the market and want some good korean. Jap chae, seafood pancake, dumplings (steamed or fried), spicy rice noodle dishes, and bibimbaps are yummy. No black bean noodles though. delish.

Leslieville Cheese Store

Rated this place:

891 Queen Street East, Toronto, ON, M4M 1J4

Grilled Cheese[s] Heaven: I set out on a mission to have a deliciously different lunch today, and i succeeded thanks to the Leslieville cheese shop. With several grilled cheese options to choose from, this store will definitely please all palettes with pairings ranging from blue cheese and grilled pear, to aged cheddar bacon, to tuna melts with a hint of spice. Don't forget to pick 1 of six unique dipping sauces and chutneys for a taste sensation you won't regret. A must try.

LeVack Block

Rated this place:

88 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, ON, M6J 2Z4

Brunch is good, but avoid dinner: i've had brunch here before. moderately priced eggs benny hit the spot. i thought i'd try out the dinner menu and it was complete overpriced rubbish. nearly $20 for a nasty overcooked gnocchi. a flavorless mess.

Rua Vang Golden Turtle Restaurant

Rated this place:

125 Ossington Avenue, Toronto, ON, M6J2Z2

Overrated. : rua vang is ok. location is convenient for ossington goers, but the pho isn't quite as tasty as pho pasteur, or even some of the places up on college/dundas west of duff. i took my mom here. she ordered banh xeo, and a basic viet curry. the curry was runny, and the banh xeo wasn't as crispy as it should be... overall, i'd rather walk the extra 20 minutes north west to get better dishes. i think the susur business is giving them a bit more credit than deserved. just ok.

The Black Hoof

Rated this place:

Unforgettable. : Ordered a large charcuterie plate, large cheese plate, foie gras, and the dessert. So far the best meal I've had this year.

Zoots Cafe

Rated this place:

1438 Dundas Street West, Toronto, Ontario, M6J1Y6

It's ok!: Coffee is just ok here, but not as good as GCB or The Common, also a tad slow for the morning rush. Expect a messy hand if you want a bagel with cream cheese. A nice atmosphere if you want to come and chat with friends. The service doesn't feel as friendly, local and welcoming as some other options on the block. Overall, a nice addition to the corner.

Grain, Curd and Bean

Rated this place:

1414 Dundas Street West, Toronto, Ontario, M6J1Y5

Perfect Brunch. : A PERFECT house blend Americano is an excellent compliment to a delicious smoked salmon bagel, served on a tasty bagel with a side of capers. Grab a slice of your favourite cheese or some olives to snack on and you're in heaven. Not many places to sit in this space, but a great cheese shop with a carefully curated selection of gourmet goods. Yum.
