Sneaky Dee's

Rated this place:

431 College St, Toronto, ON, M5T1T1

Vegan nachos: Sometimes you find great vegan options at places you wouldn’t expect. I never thought I would compare Sneaky Dees to a fancy dinner. But when it comes to nachos, Sneaky Dees is gourmet.

Queen's Park

Rated this place:

University and Wellesley Aves., Toronto, ON, M5H2N2

Late night walk: I’m a sucker for old buildings, so when I moved to Toronto, I found myself wandering through the older parts of the city like University of Toronto, just staring. Poet bonus: a statue of people’s poet Al Purdy was recently unveiled in Queen’s Park.

Soulpepper Theatre Company

Rated this place:

55 Mill Street, Building #49, Toronto, ON, M5A 3C4

Night at the theatre: They play new and old, but with an indie flair that keeps things fresh and interesting. After all, literature doesn’t stop with Shakespeare and Shaw. It helps that their cast featured prominently in the Canadian television drama Slings and Arrows. I also highly enjoyed Evil Dead: The Musical and the Second City Show Facebook of Revelations.

Vegetarian Haven

Rated this place:

17 Baldwin Street, Toronto, ON, M5T1L1

Dinner date: Veg Haven is the perfect place to take your non-vegetarian friends – the main courses are great, the service is fantastic and the vegan cheesecake has been making cheese jealous since they opened. For an exciting meal, try the sizzling seitan or a super-sized souper bowl.

Urban Herbivore

Rated this place:

64 Oxford Street, Toronto, ON, M5T1P1

Sandwich ingredients: It takes some special ingredients to convert the skeptics who think that eating plants must be boring – and to prove it using sandwiches! Urban Herbivore rises to the occasion time and again with barbecued tofu, sesame tempeh, avocado and celery root and two tasty kinds of bread.
