Rated this place:

is more like a chocolate chip cake. amazing. I've also been eating their lunch quite frequently. tons of healthy options, and tons of full blown entree options for big appetites. Well-priced and a fast-moving line.

Coffee in the AM, Cookies in the PM

Rated this place:

Le Gourmand

As I get off the Spadina streetcar every morning, I look right for oncoming traffic, cross the street and head for the door of Le Gourmand to pick up my morning ritual coffee, sidestepping and scoffing at the Starbucks morning ritual-ers.

Once you step into the shop that's always cozy and wafting with the smell of freshly baked pastries (muffins, cookies, croissants, danishes, Portuguese tarts, scones), it's as if you step away from the world of working 9-5 and into a busy Parisian cafe, even for just a few minutes of the day. The little tables, chalkboard menus and shelves packed with breads and pastries, chocolates, teas and fun products stimulate the senses.

A great breakfast and lunch place, Le Gourmand offers a great selection for the hungry: salads, gourmet sandwiches, quiches, pizzas and delicious soups. Specials of the day often include roti, macaroni and cheese and other baked goodness. The ultimate treat from Le Gourmand, however, are the cookies. Meals in themselves, the chocolate chip cookie is my favourite, followed by the "nookie cookie," walnut chocolate chip, peanut butter and then the oatmeal raisin. Portuguese tarts, chocolate bombs, brownies and tarts are also delicious, but it's the chocolate chip cookies that keep me coming back for my afternoon "cookie break" rituals.

Gourmet lunch

Rated this place:

Le Gourmand never ceases to amaze me. While this is my go-to place for gourmet sandwiches/salads, I happened to try their pasta special: gnocchi pasta with carmelized onions and other succulent veggies, all perfectly afloat in a hearty meat sauce. It's a meal for two for less than $10. Also worth mentioning is their curry chicken wrap, which is packed with green apples and smothered in yellow-y goodness. It's filling, perfectly toasted, and wonderful. Wash things down with one of their GIANT chocolate chip cookies and you'll be set for the rest of the day (week).

For the gourmand

Rated this place:

Le Gourmand

Le Gourmand Café Grocer is a great place for a healthy and delicious lunch—take-out or eat in. They have great selection of salads (especially the curry chicken), sandwiches (try the roast beef, caramelized onion and aioli) and quiches (like the smoked salmon.) And if you’re looking to be a little less healthy, they also have great desserts. Their chocolate chip cookies are especially good. (So dense that they look like a muffin top and are filled with ooey-gooey chocolate goodness!) In addition to the great lunches, Le Gourmand serves breakfast (lovely scones), great coffee and dinner items (like meatloaf.) Add to this a perfectly charming décor and shelves of gourmet staples. Perfect.

Flakey awesomeness

Rated this place:

Le Gourmand

Choose from their vegetarian (tomatoes, spinach, etc.), ham and cheese, or their smoked salmon quiches and prepare your tastebuds for savoury splendor. The place can be a bit cramped and tables fill up quite quickly, but that's because I've only been there during the afternoon rush. Good quality food and a variety of selection for those who want to avoid the hum drum and mundane lunch sandwich.

Cookie

Rated this place:

Le Gourmand

They make the chewiest oatmeal raisin cookies and the chocolate chip cookies are super chocolatey - they're crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Did I mention that the cookies are HUGE !! If you get one while it's still warm, you'll be in heaven
