Spelt crust pizza (at last?)

Rated this place:

Magic Oven

Magic oven is quite pricey, but the quality of the ingredients is undeniable. Plus, if you want to share a pizza (or have a pizza party) with someone who's got a wheat allergy, is sensitive to cheese or simply wants something more unique on their pizza than the usual pepperoni and mushrooms, this place is your safest bet. Toppings such as ginger, tandoori chicken and organic smoked bacon are available alongside more usual fare. They have gluten free rice flour and spelt crusts, though regular and whole wheat options are also available. They serve pastas, sandwiches, salads and desserts as well, but I've only sampled the gourmet pizzas. The only problem is, they don't serve them by the slice.

ok ok, I mean pizza, but look no further if you're looking for a place to grab a great pizza in its own right but with both a healthy and eco-friendly twist. Magic Oven seems to be doing real well for themselves. In just over a year they've opened 3 new locations throughout the city and it seems that most neighbourhoods in the core of the city are now encompassed by one of their delivery routes. You'll pay a pretty penny for these pizza's but they're worth it for the top quality and creative ingredient selection (including a pizza with flakes of gold but I'm not too sure what I think about that...). Lot's of special dietary needs met here. For the vegan's in the house they've got tasty cheeseless options (try the vegan Thai basil pesto...ask for extra). For those whose tums can't take the lactose but want a substitute they have lactose-free rice cheese. And for those who avoid wheat, a gluten-free rice flour crust or a yeast and oil free spelt crust are available. What makes me jump up and down with a little bit of joy though is that all the meat is organic and the poultry free range. Try the Harmony Magic for a delicious meaty indulgence. The Oven's not just about pizza though, they have a great selection of fresh salads and some great dressings. My fave is the California salad with a side of beets, the goats cheese and beets do this meld together thing that's so tasty. To make your Magic Oven night even more eco-friendly dine in at any of the locations and save the box.

Pizza

Rated this place:

Prosciutto, garlic spinach, beef salami, artichoke hearts, bocconcini = Gourment Meaty Magic, and all organic. The price is a little steep but its worth it, I shouldn't have finished small by myself. I think I committed the sin of gluttony again.

Vegan pizza

Rated this place:

Unlike Insomnia, Magic Oven's menu actually features vegan pizza (I just used to order the pizza at Insomnia without cheese.) They have many vegan, veggie, gluten-free and organic options, and serve pasta, sandwiches and soup in addition to pizza. It's a good alternative to fast food if you're a vegetarian on the run (you don't have to custom order anything as they have ready-made veggie food) and some locations deliver!
