good service, atmosphere, food

Rated this place:

The pho kept up with the pace the rest of the restaurant was setting. Dark, sweet beef broth sprinkled with pepper was the first taste that hit my lips. As I started eating I was surprised to see no cilantro or onions in the pho, although it was packed with scallions. The long rice noodles were thicker than they are at most places which is great for those of us who love the slurping. While the pho dac biet did not have beef balls the quality of beef in the soup was impressive. The tendons still packed quite a bit of meat on them and there was not very many fatty pieces lurking under the broth either. The rare beef was cut a little thick so it did not melt in your mouth as it does in some places but, it was delicious none the less. The most abundant meat in the pho was the well done beef which is great when you want to be filled up. More at http://www.pho411.ca/blog/special-beef-noodle-soup-pho-88/

Pho 88

Rated this place:

The Spadina Pho 88 has been renovated according to the stuff-white-people-like handbook, all designery and arty. Not that there's anything wrong with that... but the effort they put into the reno has somehow had a detrimental effect on their formerly-delicious Pho.Do yourselves a favor: Walk out of Pho 88, north till you hit Dundas, turn left (west), go 50 metres, enter Pho Pasteur and order up a Rare Beef (Satay) #3, eat it, then tell me it doesn't totally dominate Pho 88.P.S. I heard the other Pho 88 is still great.

Broth to die for

Rated this place:

There's nothing quite so delicately and simply refreshing as a big bowl of Pho with a Vietnamese iced coffee, served right: dripped over the ice cubes into the glass and mixed together with condensed milk. The Gerrard street location is the only one I've been to, but it's perfect: simple and to-the-point, with low prices and big bowls.

Shanghai noodles

Rated this place:

I've been up and down Chinatown and this place has the best Shanghai Noodles anywhere in the city. This dish alone makes it my new go-to place on the china strip. I'm loving the new look places too. Great atmosphere, excellent service (English friendly!), and better than average milk shakes make it worth trying out.

Pho

Rated this place:

I like the new reno, it's clean and shiny in there now and the chicken noodle pho rocks. The deep fried spring rolls aren't too shabby either. Deliciously greasy.

Pho

Rated this place:

Their soup is delicious. Their portions are generous. They give you sauce in those large squeeze bottles, like it should be. Their spring rolls are to die for. And it's "sister" Pho restaurant on Spadina, doesn't compare!
