Indian restaurant

Rated this place:

Not knowing what to expect and one of my first experiences to "higher end" Indian dining... I was happy with their service and the quality of their food.

Not your average Indian restaurant

Rated this place:

Biryani House

Biryani House is a soothing alternative to the average Indian restaurant in Toronto, bringing Indian food to a level that it deserves. The kitchen here specializes in reviving Dum Pukht Cuisine that calls for meats and foods to be cooked under a low flame for a long period of time. Slow cooking allows for meats and foods to simmer and for flavours and juices to release - and I promise you, Biryani House is very, very good with flavours.

Try the green veg + daal fritters (Subz Mangoda Basket) for a delicious exotic fritter. The samosas are one-of-a-kind with a crispy yet slightly bread-like shell. Dum Pukht Biryani offers a heaping bowl of rice, slow cooked meats, raises and nuts mixed into a beautiful medley of flavours. The show-stopper of this particular visit was the Laziz Makki Khumb Masala: mushrooms, peas, corns, paneer, bell peppers in an intricate and perfectly seasoned saucy stew - served with garlic naan. I'd say it's a nice step in the middle of Amaya Indian Room (Bayview) and The Host (Yorkville) for "higher end" Indian cuisine.

Hint: don't let burning incense punch you in the face when you first walk and be ready for your clothes to smell like a hot plate of sizzling tandoori chicken - but the load of laundry will be worth it.

Indian restaurant

Rated this place:

Climb the stairs and have a seat by the window and enjoy the serene view of Wellesley below. It's not a very busy spot, but the food and service was pretty good. I could have faved just their naan, which I ordered over and over again, but this place as a restaurant gets extra points for being an undiscovered gem.

Butter chicken is always my fave, but this place is probably the best in the city.
