Specialty tea + coffee drinks, healthy food
Rated this place:
Bloom Cafe is the new kid on the block in Baldwin Village, on Baldwin St. east of Beverley and west of McCaul. Open for almost a year now, it has become a favourite for locals looking for something different on Baldwin. Japanese meets Korean meets vegan/gluten-free and health-conscious types, Bloom offers a myriad of different choices not found in your average Toronto cafe or restaurant.
Bloom is a reminder that you shouldn't judge a restaurant by its menu design or dish description. While some dishes sound frightfully plain in print, dishes like the Fragrant Chicken bowl (a truly delicious and fragrant bowl) surprise me time after time. Offerings of soups, sandwiches, wraps and breakfast/brunch foods grace the menu for under $10. Alternatively, you can try their speciality Onigiri rice triangles: purple rice wrapped in seaweed with your choice of filling in the middle. Go for the anchovy, fried kimchi, bulgogi or spicy tuna.
Best of all, Bloom caters to Toronto's tea-loving community - but don't let that scare you off. Over 10 types of infused, loose leaf teas come served in pots for long conversations or study hours. Fun tea options like tea lattes, tea martinis and "tea au lait" (tea mixed with milk and steamed) offer something fun and totally different from your average tea house. Coffees and hot chocolates like the Almond Rocca Latte and the Mint Chocolate Hot Chocolate are also a fun change from the average.
