Multicultural, multidelicious local grocery

Rated this place:

Bloor Court Market

I used to live around the corner from this grocery store, and was heartbroken when they closed last year. Thankfully, they’ve opened back up just down the street in a smaller, more streamlined space that nonetheless manages to stock all the awesome stuff they used to carry – from weird (and delicious) imported Chilean sweets to Croatian jams and juices, to authentic (as close as you can get in Toronto, anyway) Montreal style bagels. It’s a great place to buy basics like fruits and vegetables, too. The produce is always fresh and varied (I had black radishes from there recently – I didn’t even know black radishes existed), and they have a small but plentiful organic section too. Plus, the friendly, multi-lingual family who runs the place is the best. I missed them while they were gone, and am so glad they’re back in the ‘hood.

Bagels

Rated this place:

Did you know that the Bloor Court Market has Bagel House delivering fresh, Montreal-style bagels every day? Well, now you do. There is no need to suffer the indignity of sub-par bagels any longer, Bloorcourt dwellers!

Indie market

Rated this place:

It's got super variety for a little local joint - st. urbain bagels and euro breads, organic and standard produce, dairy, dry goods, frozen foods. Everything you need when you don't have time to make it to a larger place, or if, like me, you don't even want to. Plus, the owners are this super cool Korean family that speak perfect Portuguese and English as well as Korean, and they switch on a dime depending on who's in line next at the cash. Impressive.
