Gourmet hot dogs

Rated this place:

I've only tried one variety so far - a flavourful and lean organic link in a soft bakery fresh bun, dressed up in mapley condiment. So delicious - it reminded me of eating really good sausage and pancakes with maple syrup. Sooooo country Canadiana good. I'm going back for more.

Buddha Dog

Considering I don't really eat meat, and I don't eat white bread (or let my family eat), Buddha Dog has become the exception. The team at Buddha Dog is great...you can really tell that they are proud of what they are doing. "The idea was to bring together the best local suppliers - Farmers, Dairies, Bakers, Butchers, Chefs, etc - to make an exceptional hotdog and let it represent the best of their region and culinary tradition." And guess what? They succeeded. Games on the tables, stickers and crayons to keep the kids busy and a simple menu with so many toppings, you'll be happy an adult meal is actually 4 or 5 dogs so you can try many. Pretty eco-friendly for a hot dog!

Such yummy local goodness in 5 bites! Everything in and on these little hot dogs (yes this is a hot dog restaurant) is born and raised, sown and grown in these here parts, or at least from pretty darn close by. The two Andrews who own and run this shop have a real passion for good food and building relationships to the people who grow and make it. The meats are naturally raised and slaughtered at one of the last small family run abattoirs in Ontario. I love the jalapeno cheese and cherry ketchup. This winter I've been stopping by for more than just hot dogs though...their soups are awesome. Every day they have a vegetarian soup and a non-veg soup. I particularly loved the chicken and wild rice. And from what I hear they have a games night complete with Jenga and all kinds of other wild fun.

Stop the presses! Toronto now has its own version of Crif Dog. For anyone that has lived in NYC you will be all to familiar with the siren call of Crif Dog. Worry not Torontonians because now you too can enjoy the pleasures of 10 cm's of deliciousness! I'd be lying if I didn't say I was jealous that Buddha Dog has beaten me to market, but at least I don't need to lie awake dreaming about the next time I am going to NYC for work. I can just pop over to Ronces'ies to satisfy my craving.
