Eclectic wares from local artisans

Rated this place:

C1 Art Space

This fine art and craft shop is a wonderful place to scout for handmade gifts and items for the home. Owner Sandra Tarantino stocks wares from Canadian artisans, including handmade cushions by Erin Vincent, adorable printed cotton cocktail napkins by Avril Loreti and superbly odd gift cards and notebooks by Mary-Anne Wensley. If you’re more hands on, C1 also offers classes for kids and adults on everything from ceramics and silk-screening to encaustics and collage.

Art school for all

Rated this place:

C1 is a great little shop on Ossington, just north of Queen. In addition to carrying a variety of original art objects, they also offer a whole slew of clay and art classes for adults (as well as teens and children.) The classes take place in the back of the store and typically run once a week for a total of about four weeks each. In addition to some of the usual suspects, like pottery painting, they also offer some more off-beat options, such as silk screening on clay. A fun thing to do with friends or on your own! For details on upcoming sessions, check their website at www.c1artspace.com.

Customize a t-shirt, make some cool invitations, or create a work of art to display in your home. There are drop-ins and scheduled art classes. The way drop-ins work is you visit the studio with whatever images you had in mind to screenprint printed on acetate (clear overhead projector sheets) -- you can get this done at any copy centre. Contact them in advance and they'll prepare you for what you'll need. The classes are fun, a little messy, and a great way to flex your creative talents!

Art gallery

Rated this place:

Very unique art work from new artists! Who wants to see the old guys that have been dead for who knows how many years. We need more fresh new art and I've seen some of the best at C1
