Walking, rollerblading

Rated this place:

Best place to rollerblade leisurely - no vehicles to avoid! If you stumble, you will more likely fall on a patch of grass than a hard sidewalk!

parks and gardens

Rated this place:

A short ferry ride from downtown takes you to the Toronto Islands, where you'll find beaches, plenty of green space and trees, beautiful gardens, recreational activities like biking, canoeing and volleyball, and an amusement park (called Centreville) for kids. It doesn't feel like you're in Toronto at all. Residents live on the island all year round, but the most popular time to visit is definitely the summer. I like coming here in the fall. It's beautiful when the leaves change colour. There's a restaurant by the harbour where you can grab a drink and snack and watch the sailboats go by on the lake. It's a relaxing retreat from the city. Regular adult fare to take the ferry over is $6.50, and it's $3 for kids under 14.

Centre Island

I love taking my family to Centre Island! It’s great for a picnic, biking around the island, or going to Centreville Amusement Park—a great fun weekend adventure to do with the family. Another bonus is that my girls find it exciting to take the ferry over to the island. On the island you really feel like you are in another world and so far from the hectic city life. This is also a great place to take out of town guests to show them a different side to Toronto. The view of the Toronto skyline at night is amazing!

A maze for all seasons

Rated this place:

Centre Island

Every summer, I feel like ice-cream and flip flop season has truly begun when I find myself on Centre Island, running through the hedge maze. It's a lovely place to walk or ride a bike, and even on the most crowded of summer weekends, it still doesn't take all that long to catch a ferry over. In recent years, the islands have hosted some really fun musical events, but I mostly like going there for regular, plain, daytime fun. Plus, I never feel like I've gotten too old for Centreville Amusement Park.

Public space

Rated this place:

Any visitor should make at least one trip here. The older ferries are grand, that is a fine experience by itself, and the island had so much to offer, beach, fountains, beautiful greenery and flowers and areas to get sun. Very very lush gardens all over the island. If you have kids, Centreville is the place to take them, old world "Pioneer' theme park with fun rides, and CHEAP! It's a very well planned and entertainment-friendly island. Picnics are fun and very friendly for the aged and immobile

Park for an afternoon, Public space

Rated this place:

The most beautiful part of toronto. I've lived here for years, but never made it to the island until this summer, and I definitely regret not going in the past.

ITs the most beautiful place in toronto. I feel like I'm miles away from the city biking around the islands.

Summer concert spot

Rated this place:

Centre Island

In june i saw young galaxy, rogue wave, the stars and death cab for cutie play on olympic island! it was my first concert and the best i could have ever imagined! although it gets crammed when 17, 000 groupies are trying to cross the bridge in pairs, it's totally worth it in the end ... if just to see the sunset over the toronto skyline. usually ferry fare is included in the ticket price too!
