Saturday afternoon live music

Rated this place:

Every saturday from 4-7ish a fantastic Gypsy jazz band hang out here. The place is tiny and the singer/horn player serves the drinks.

Trendsetters from Queen Street West

A Local Hideout

Rated this place:

Remember when you were a kid – and building forts with pillows and blankness was a favourite pastime? Well – the Communist Daughter captures this feeling – but for adults. Go here if you want to feel like you are in a small living room, in a small apartment. You will make friends with the guy sitting next to you effortlessly. Like Sweaty Betty’s, this place also has a jukebox. I’m not sure if the crowd is much different – but perhaps those who are more into reading heavy literature frequent this place. Where Sweaty Betty’s draws those 22 & up – this place may see more 32 & up. No patio – but easy to leave your beer on the bar and head outside for a quick smoke. The crowd here looks like they are going to go home and write poetry, or work on their essay before hitting the sack. I’m not sure why…I think they just look smart and unpretentious.

Dive bars, Martini

Rated this place:

Communist's Daughter

The jukebox is fantastic and the crowd that frequents there knows how to to pick them. I spent all night saying, "I love this song". Also, the bartender makes a mean martini.

The bartender has discovered the magic equilibrium of vodka and vermouth that makes them go down so easy. Combined with the awesome jukebox, this place makes for a great late night - if you can get a seat.

Neighbourhood bar

Rated this place:

Good crowd of sufficiently friendly and interesting regulars of the youngish/hippish variety, crokinole boards galore, and one of the best juke boxes around - if you can get a seat at this no frills watering hole, you'd be advised to take it. i hear the pickled eggs are also very good. if you're into that kind of thing.

Its a great place to grab a drink and listen to some good music (which you can even choose yourself from a great jukebox selection)
