Performing arts theatre

Rated this place:

The lobby is suitably grand (same as its downstairs sister the Elgin) but it's the theatre itself that is so cool. A garden motif, hence the name, is beautifully carried out by hanging leafs and pastoral murals. Also, has a neat collection of vaudeville backdrops on display. Close to the subway is a plus.

Place to spot a celebrity

Rated this place:

You'll definitely see celebrities on the red carpet during the gala screenings, but I've also seen Rachel McAdams and Colin Firth walk in like, uh, normal people.

Theatre

Rated this place:

Its very Beautiful with comfortable seating and great acoustics. We love going to see musicals and always look forward to them when they are at the Elgin.

Toronto film festival location

Rated this place:

Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre

My faved spot to watch films in Toronto! It usually holds Gala and Special Presentation movies during TIFF. Love the elegant seatings and classic deco of this theater. Sometimes you can even get to be in the box seat for the film if you are in the line early enough.

Theatre

Rated this place:

This is one of the last remaining Edwardian double decker theatres (i.e. two separate theatres, one atop the other), and man does it warrant taking a peek (if not taking in a performance). Check out the faux hanging garden that festoons the ceiling, and marvel at the elaborately painted balcony boxes. Feast your eyes on some vintage costumes, cased in glass. An enchanting place.
