Zoo

Rated this place:

They have a number of capybaras, the world's largest rodent, as well as groundhogs who live with the mouflon sheep. Oh and the peahens of course. No, I'm not forgetting the llamas. Okay, I just love them all.

Nature in the city

Rated this place:

It's a great place to escape from the rat race of the city, right inside the city! Any time of year, High Park is a great escape!

Park

Rated this place:

It's huge, beautiful and full of different things to do depending on which day you go. I've had a fun game of bocce there, been toboganning, ran around with a dog or two - there's no limit!

Park

Rated this place:

This huge beautiful park so close to downtown, we are lucky to have it. but now we have to destroy those horrid tall condos blotting the skyline to the south.

Park in the city

Rated this place:

High Park

It has the most incredible children's playground I've ever seen (informally called Castle Park) plus gardens, that wacky High Park Zoo, water play, ice cream ... and it's so big that you can easily feel like you've left the city altogether.

Hiking spot, Ice skating rink

Rated this place:

High Park has a really fine cluster of woodland trails in the northeast part. The Black oak savannah habitat is particularly interesting and lovely, an example of native grasslands that existed here before the Euros came over and cleared the big old hardwood forests. Great picnic spots, and this walk takes you past the beloved community gardens and the outdoor theatre space that has free Shakespeare in the summer.

Skating in December - just after the ice freezes to a skateable 2”+ thickness, and before any heavy snow – is a great winter passtime. The pond freezes over with black ice - smooth as glass and transparent, so you can see the bottom as you skate over the shallows
