Riopelle cheese

Rated this place:

It's creamy, it's delicious, and it's from Quebec! If you like brie, you'll love Riopelle. This is a rustic preparation with a very refined taste. I have yet to serve it and not have it all go. La Fromagerie was the first place I tasted it, so go there and ask Robert for a sample.

Unhelpful, Expensive, Nice Cheese!

Rated this place:

I don't know a lot about cheese except that I like it. I have a basic idea of the kind of cheeses I like so I went in and asked for some recommendations. The girl behind the counter was pretty unresponsive. Eventually we took a guess and walked out with a couple slivers of cheese worth their weight in gold. The cheese was excellent. I might go there again next time I know exactly what I want.

rare cheeses, lovingly selected

La Fromagerie

If you’re really, truly a fan of cheese, then the wide array of extremely rare farmhouse cheeses definitely makes this place stand out in the ‘cheese landscape’ of the city. I recommend the chèvres from Quebec, or the French-from-France Pouligny St. Pierre. La Fromagerie also has tonnes of fancy imports – chocolates, teas, olives (oh so many delicious olives!) chestnut purees and spreads (among my favourite things in the world). But if you’re just passing by and have $5 in your pocket, stop in to sample one of their superb croissants (plain is my fave but the almond and chocolate variations are truly delicious). There’s also an array of dainty sweet pastries and spectacular baguettes.
