C'mon. If you're going to get a latte, you might as well get some trippy latte art funneled into the surface. Mercury Coffee Bar was one of the only places that impressed my (perhaps snobbish) girlfriend from Seattle, where children go straight from pablum to java, as much for the taste as for the great atmosphere. Sure, go to Tango Palace for the dark-wood-and-brass decor, but skip their caffeinated drinks; Mercury's the real deal. Bonus: Free wifi, and a truly awesome blog.

The coffee is delicious. That’s the most important thing, right? With that out of the way, let me say about how nice it is to have this indie perk station holding its own as surrounding Leslieville develops.The hip staff, local art and chatty vibe are what keep this place buzzing year round. Prefer an atmosphere similar to grandmas bridge club? Try the local Starbucks. A bench on the sidewalk and patio around the corner lend themselves to the Mercury’s summer social scene, while the colder months find patrons around tables and sunk in couches contemplating kitchen sink lighting, smiling through cappuccino moustaches.

They use organic milk - the beans are freshly ground/per cup - they add great images to their lattes!

Organic, fair trade coffee that simply tastes the best in the city. Great staff and fun expresso lovers in this awesome up-and-coming neighbourhood. Worth the trip to Leslieville.

It's very good. Grab a twisted puff pastry glazed with orange zest at Bonjour Brioche down the street, and then have an espresso at Mercury for an awesome breakfast. While Bonjour Brioche doesn't have the best pastry in the city, its proximity to Mercury is why I have included it here. If you can, grab a croissant at Celestin (NE corner Mt. Pleasant & Manor Road) and then head to Mercury. But even I am not that food-obsessed to do that... well maybe only once a month.

If you have ever been there on a nice summer afternoon in the summer, then you already know why mercury coffee is great. Not to forget, all the staff are really nice. Alex is working hard on perfecting his decorative latte. runner ups would be Jet Fuel and Marrs (i like crappy diner/coffee shops. Marrs, that is.)

They are serious about offering high quality coffee. Chain coffee shops serve warm puddle water by comparison
