Skating

Rated this place:

It's great to be able to go out and get some outdoor exercise in the winter. Quick, and fun to go with a group from work at lunchtime.

Nathan Phillips Square

Rated this place:

One of the most visited sights in the city, Nathan Philips Square is home to many high-profile Toronto events like L’Oreal Fashion Week, jazz concerts, and a very crowded New Year’s Eve bash. During the summer, it’s a pit stop for visiting tourist trying out Canadian delicacies (i.e. poutine) and for young lovers taking a breather on the benches from the hot sun. However, iceskaters crowding the platform are a usual sight during the winter. The good thing is: Events set in here are mostly free with the few exceptions.

French fries

Rated this place:

The chip trucks in front of the square have the best fries on the go in the city. Good gravy too

Great for for morning and early afternoon skate. Love the atmosphere around Christmas time!

I like the "busyness" feel plus you get a real feel of what Toronto is like!

Nathan Phillips Square

It's the place to be and can fit a huge crowd. Earth Hour 2008 was awesome. Never knew NPS could be so packed.

Farmer's market for local produce

Rated this place:

Nathan Phillips Square

Every Wednesday from June 6 to October 16, I make a habit of using my lunch hour to head south on Bay Street, away from the maddening corporate crowd, to bask in the natural joys of the Nathan Phillips Square Farmer's Market. Open from 8 am to 2:30 pm, 20 vendors sell local honey, potted herbs, venison sausage, cut flowers, and of course, vegetables. As far as I know, this is the only place you can buy broccoli while standing between a Henry Moore sculpture and an ice skating rink.

Outdoor skating rink

Rated this place:

Nathan Phillips Square

I love skating outdoors in the cold. It's such a different experience than an indoor rink. I've done the same in Quebec City. I love it! It's great fun, great exercise, and a wonderful outing. Try it. You'll love it.
