BANH XEO

Rated this place:

Viet run and clean. I wouldn't come here for pho (because i have my other faves), but the banh xeo, and noodle dishes are fantastic. Tons of my childhood faves available here, always fresh, always delicious. Nice place to experience viet cuisine for the first time. MUST TRY THE BANH XEO HERE.

Fancy Pho

Rated this place:

I couldn't be defined as a deal-seeking expert without adding a favorite pho place to my list. A long favorite of students and the thrifty, pho is one of the few meals you can get in Toronto for under $7.

A little nicer than your usual hole-in-the-wall pho places, Pho Phuong has a sleek decor and comfy booths. The portions are huge, and the broth is fantastic.

The mango salad and goi cuon were fantastic. Friendly service, and lots of interesting options on the menu.

Pho

Rated this place:

An alternative to Golden Turtle, the pho at Pho Phuong in the same ‘hood makes a great substitute and the dishes are pretty much the same price.

Bahn xeo, Vietnamese restaurant

Rated this place:

Bahn xeo or the crispy pancake is so full of coconut and rich flavour that it's amazing. Compared to the soggy eggy versions around town that are more like omlettes, this stuffed pancake is wonderfully crispy and comes with some very fragrant herbs to give it that nice little kick.

Ignore the cheaply done but stylish settings of this restaurant and take a look at their fantastic menu of dishes that you may never see outside of a Vietnamese home. Hitting on all the right sour, sweet, savoury and spicy notes in each of their sauces, it's amazing. Particular favourites include the crispy fried pancake, rice cake three ways, house broken rice and their fantastic duck noodle soup with bamboo shoots - just don't be afraid of the pig's blood cubes. Much better than Rua Vang!

Vietnamese restaurant with a little ambiance

Rated this place:

The food is great, and that's always number one, but as well as great traditional viet dishes, you get atmospheric surrounds not typical of the mostly perfunctory pho resto set-ups around town. Brilliant.
