Pizza that will bring you back to Naples

Rated this place:

Pizzeria Libretto

When this place first opened, it received tons of publicity for having the "best pizza in Toronto." What threw me off was the no-reservations policy and long wait lines. After finally making a stop for dinner (if you head over right after work before the dinner crowd bustles in around 7pm, you can avoid wait lines) - I wish I had come sooner! It's hard to defend a restaurant for having the "best" anything - but if you're looking for rustic Italian country-side style pizza with fresh, flavourful items, Libretto is it. The dough is crispy but light, even fluffy, ingredients are fresh and local whenever possible. The margherita pizza is a classic and must-try but the homeade sausage pizza with caramelized onions blew me away. Last but not least, don't miss their tiramisu or my new fave dessert in Toronto: the vanilla affogato - a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream (all their ice creams / gelatos are incredible, homemade, and not full of water + air - pure beautiful ice cream) served with a shot of espresso - if you love coffee, this is your dessert. Bellissimo!

A True Delight

Rated this place:

The pizzas at this place are so good I won't even go there. Just visit and try it yourself. There's no need for me to tempt you. (If you aren't vegetarian, then it is sausage pizza for the win, by the way!) Once you visit, however, leave some space in your tummy for the desserts. There are wonderful ice-creams (gelato), coffees, and cheese plates, if you ever feel full after your main course. Oh and their bruschetta is truly wonderful. The chef changes the meat and cheese combination every day, making it a constant surprise and a must-order every time you visit.

A+ from a Pizza Lover

Rated this place:

Pizzeria Libretto

If you know me in real life, you should know the following: 1) One of my favorite restaurants in Toronto is Pizzeria Libretto, 2) I must order the Duck Confit pizza when I'm there, 3) I must also order a charcuterie plate when I'm there, and finally 4) This is the only restaurant where I have never ordered dessert or felt the urge to order dessert (I've been there 4 times), because I'm just that satisfied with my main meal - this is extremely rare... Thin crust margherita pizza

Rated this place:

I'm a little late to Toronto's artisan pizza scene. I couldn't justify waiting in line for an hour or more just to feast on plain pizza, but now that I've tried Pizzeria Libretto's fare, I think I kind of get it. People crowd the narrow front entrance for a taste of pizza pies pulled from a wood burning oven as hot as Hades. The crust is chewy and slightly burned at the edges, but the mozzarella is still soft and gooey.A 30-minute wait to get a seat at Libretto may be worth it for the consistently good food served up by gracious wait staff, but I draw the line after that. I'll be just as happy down the street with a bowl of pho.

Eco-Friendly

Now this is real pizza!

Rated this place:

Favourite ECO-ASPECTS 1. supporting local and sustainable food - try the margherita pizza to understand what using the best ingredients does for a simple dish! 2. They filter our Toronto water on site and fill simple glass bottles and serve...happily…without charge. Make sure you get to their door early (read as: right when they open, check website for times) because it’s the only way to get a table without waiting, no reservations are taken. Libretto deserves the success…delicious and unpretentious real food at real prices. They claim to be “Simple, Natural, and Honest.”, I couldn’t agree more.

Pizza the way nature intended

Rated this place:

Pizzeria Libretto

Perhaps the best test of a good pizzeria is its simplest pizzas, like the Margherita. And Pizzeria Libretto does not disappoint with this or any of its other great options, like the delicious Wild Mushroom one. All of the pizza is cooked in a fantastic-looking wood-burning oven, which was made by a traditional pizza oven maker in Naples and then shipped over. How’s that for authentic! In addition to pizza, they have a great selection of appetizers (try one of the delicious cheeses) and desserts. A fun place for a quick bite with friends. Or if you’re not in the mood for a night on the town, they also do take-out.

Pizza

Rated this place:

Fantastic. You can definitely tell the difference between wood fired ovens and regular ovens. I ordered the Quattro Stagione (4 seasons) and each quarter was absolutely delightful. However, I ate a slice of my friend's House-Made Sausage pizza and that definitely took the prize. The meat was rich and demanded the spotlight in an otherwise subtle pizza. It's got a lively atmosphere and the wait staff were polite and prompt. But expect to wait in line as it garners more attention.
