Who doesn't love a farm, especially one located in the heart of the city? With or without kids, you're guaranteed an afternoon full of fun, animals and intoxicating (and not-so-intoxicating) smells!

It's a delight to visit a farm which is easily approachable (in this case within the city), makes for an excellent picnic spot. Kids can have a great time here.

This is a fantastic place to take little kids! Perfect little activity within the city and great for recharging and getting back to nature. At the farm they have cow’s horses, pigs, chickens and other animals, which get the kids so excited. Since they only know these animals from books, it’s such a joy to see their faces light up when they see and hear all the noises the animals make! Riverdale Farm also offer’s hands on activities for young ones and you can also host birthday parties there as well! The farmers market is open at the every Tuesday from May-October.

Riverdale Farm

Rated this place:

This scenic property located blocks east of Parliament St. is a tranquil little place populated by friendly farm animals of goats, donkeys, sheeps, geese, rabbits and more. It also sites ponds, greeneries and a barn. Some mornings, workers prepare fresh bread in a wood-burning oven. Overall, Riverdale Farm is a nice escape from the city and great for outings like walks during first dates in the spring and summer.

An Urban Farm!

Rated this place:

Who would have thought a farm could exist in the middle of the city? Parents and children can spend a day at the farm without going to far outside the city. It also doesn't cost you a cent to go in and explore. They have all the recognizable farm animals such as cows, horses and chickens and children can learn about milking goats and grooming horses. The Meeting House hosts programs for pre-schoolers and tots; you can also host birthday parties there as well.

Farm and petting zoo

Rated this place:

Riverdale Farm

A nice little farm which is open to visitors to walk around and look at the farm animals. The usual suspects can be found: pigs, chickens, horses, cows, goats, sheep and a donkey. It's great for kids and you can also go on a nice nature walk next a bog of all things.

Farmer's market for local produce

Rated this place:

Riverdale Farm

One day I'd like to own my own sheep, that I could shear and milk and love (not in the nasty way). Until then, there's Riverdale Farm. The farm's market runs from 3 PM to 7 PM each Tuesday, early May to end of October. All vendors are certified organic, and carry fresh local seasonal food. From fiddleheads to fresh baked sourdough bread, lamb, yogurt, fish from Georgian Bay, bison... it's a cornucopia of Edenic fruits, veg, dairy and meat.

Urban space

Rated this place:

Riverdale Farm

It's hardly an urban space at all. Years ago, it was the Toronto Zoo. That large stone structure in the cow pen was the monkey house. Now it's a farm - and you can purchase farm fresh eggs from the chickens you chase along the paths.
