Place to get no fuss food

Rated this place:

Where else in the city (besides your mom's house) can you get Cheese Whiz on toast?

First and Favourite

Rated this place:

Sweaty Betty's

The first bar on Ossington before the madness, Sweaty Betty's features an amazing back patio, cozy decor, an awesome jukebox, and no douchebags. Also, occassionally, a drag queen will climb up the ivy-covered lattice and do a dance.

EYE WEEKLY patio pick #1

Rated this place:

"...With its salon-style wall art displays, amazing CD jukebox and antique furniture, Betty’s is a popular hang-out year round, but its patio (open all seasons for smokers, but especially crowded in the summer) is like a backyard crash pad that serves all your favourite micro-brews (Creemore, Wellington, Amsterdam, to name a few). Though patio season might inspire thoughts of drinking in the midday sun — and the bar’s Sunday-afternoon barbecues certainly satisfy that desire — Sweaty Betty’s is definitely an evening spot, with its wooden fence and sauna-styled banquettes adding to the intimacy..."

Casual Bar

Rated this place:

Skip the mixed drinks and grab a beer at the bar.

Small and cozy, with my favorite feature - a jukebox! I love the old sofas and the vintage tattoo art.

Great tiny bar

Rated this place:

Sweaty Betty's

There are some bars that are big behemoths. Sweaty Betty’s is not one of them. This is perfect if, like me, you have a thing for tiny watering holes. Betty’s intimate size and relaxed atmosphere make it a great spot to catch up with friends over drinks. And because it’s small you also typically end up meeting other people too … which can make for some really fun and interesting evenings. Although this is mostly just a drinks place, there are some snacky options on the menu, like cheez whiz on toast and guacamole and natchos. The front and back portions of the bar are both equally fun.

Homey hang spot.

Rated this place:

If you like parasols in your glass, this no nonsense haunt will likely get your panties in a twist. A great jukebox, couches and living room décor define the homey flavour of the room. The chandelier helps too. In the warmer months, a secluded patio adds to the house party vibe.

Rock bar

Rated this place:

Although it sounds a little rough around the edges, Sweaty Betty’s doesn’t cater to masochists. It simply takes the glam out of going to the bar and strips the experience down to its basics: drinking, chatting and having a good time with self-proclaiming "grouchy" bartenders. Menu specialties include vodka and soda, cheez whiz on toast and grilled sandwiches but they’re better known for their jukebox...

Bar ambience

Rated this place:

Super small, but very unpretentious and relaxed. Feels like you're at home, especially since you have to get your own drinks from the bar! But it's only two steps from wherever you're sitting so it's ok!
