Featured as part of TripAtlas.com's 10 best haunted attractions in Toronto: The Fairmont Royal York in downtown Toronto is rumoured to have a Crystal Ballroom that was permanently closed down because it failed to meet the fire code. It's been reported that there are times when the service elevator will go to this floor, even though it has been closed off. Guests who stay on the floor below (who are none the wiser to the existence of a ballroom) have been known to complain about noise, music and talking coming from what they assume is a ballroom or event venue upstairs. luxury hotel, lobby and decor

The lobby is your first impression of a hotel, and the Fairmont lobby's opulent decor, complete with beautiful flower arrangements, plush seating, marble floors, antique accents and gold trimmings lets you know that this is a place fit for a queen. But it's not only for the rich and famous (even if the queen did stay here). Everyone is treated like royalty. I find it to be the most inviting luxury hotel in the city (compared to some upscale boutique properties). The staff is very friendly and the courteous doorman in uniform is also a nice touch. I love the spiral staircase and clock in the centre of the lobby that takes you to underground shopping, and the second floor's veranda-like balcony that looks down at the beautiful main area.

It has to be one of the most incredible hotels in the city. It has so much history and beauty. The staff are gracious and very hospitable. Loved our stay!!
