Stephen Fowler has amazing taste and a great shop. He takes the time to write his own little blurbs in many of the books. Ask about the mailing list - if you tell him what subjects you're interested in, he'll e-mail you when he gets in something he thinks you'd like.

After my first visit, it already became my favorite bookstore. There is no book (or "curiosity") in the store that I wouldn't want for myself. Amazingly eccentric collection. Excellent browsing venue.

A not-scary monkey's paw

Probably the oddest (and awesomest) of Toronto’s secondhand book shops, and definitely the most intriguing. I was first drawn in by the antique typewriters lining the upper shelves, but fell in love with the awesome array hard to find books. Not the place to go for discounted popular paperbacks, but definitely the first place you should check out if you’re looking for something a bit more obscure or unusual. Things I have bought there for very reasonable prices include old cocktail and party guides from the 1940s, crazy Victorian erotica, ancient instructional books about the weather and some trashy pulp novels from the ‘50s with delightfully racy covers. Plus, the owner's great to talk to and gives excellent recommendations.

Cultural dissonance as art form. it's inspiring to see freaky vintage etiquette books, science texts, and porno paperbacks all rubbing shoulders in one little shop. plus they sell typewriters. four f*ckin stars!

I have a full set of the weirdest 19th century Scottish lithographs from this place. They feature giants, and demons, and weeping lassies. It is a cabinet of curiosities. And worth exploring.

Bookstore, Used bookstore

Rated this place:

Old, weird books are more interesting than new, commonplace books. This shop is all about the old & weird.

Weird and beautiful. It's like a museum of forgotten information. Great place for a smart date.

Bookstore

Rated this place:

An excellent place to browse! Well-chosen selection of specialty books spanning most of the last century. Eccentric, slightly creepy (in a good way) vibe...like stepping into a Harry Potter movie.
