Brisket for breakfast? YES
Rated this place:
Everyone knows this Annex eatery is a good place for BBQ, but it remains one of the relatively-undiscovered gems on Toronto’s brunch landscape. The restaurant’s website doesn’t even advertise it, but the $14.95 all you can eat southern style buffet is a) the best brunch buffet concept ever, and b) a bargain at twice the price, considering the fact that you can load up your plate with your weight in the same tender brisket that you might have for $15.95 at dinnertime.
In addition to the brisket, there’s juicy ham, smoked bacon, thick sausage gravy, chilli, eggs, potato salad, shrimp, coleslaw, flaky, buttery biscuits and some mighty sweet cornbread. They even serve grits, topped with cheese or maple syrup, depending on your preference. The dessert menu rotates, so try to be there on a day when they’re serving banana cream pudding.
Among a variety of exotic cocktails, there are bourbon Caesars for the brave and hung over, but a cup of bottomless coffee also does the trick. As at dinnertime, Cluck, Grunt and Low doesn’t take reservations, so be prepared to wait a bit if it’s really prime brunching time. Believe me, it will be worth the wait.
