Ok so it is ridiculous that I had never been to Schwartz's before now since I have been to Montreal at least 10 times. I always underestimated the hype and thought I am sure it is an over-rated tradition. My husband made me go and boy was I impressed. The smoked meat sandwich really is outstanding and the pickles and peppers and fries were amazing. The place is ALWAYS full - even on a Monday at lunch, there is a line but definitely worth it. I enjoyed every bite and really appreciated the reasonable size of sandwich relative to the NY Carnegie Deli sandwich which is so big that it is off-putting. Highly recommend it!

Anyone who knows anything about meat and lives in montreal has been to this institution. When they're on, it is the tastiest, moistest smoked meat sandwhich you've ever had in your life. To ensure quality i suggest you go late on a weeknight as the quality sometimes suffer when there is a huge amount of customers (which is most of the time).

This is the most famous smoked meat restaurant in all of Montreal and it's been a local restaurant since the early 1920's. When we planned our first family trip there, this was for sure on the top of the list because of all the raves about it. Surely, it didn't disappoint!

Oh-so-delicious. This is possibly one of the best meals in the entire city of Montreal. A definite must if you can make it there. It is so savoury and scrumptious, you will leave feeling full and satisfied.

There really is nothing like Montreal smoked meat, and Schwartz's is the best place to go for the delicacy, the no-nonsense atmosphere, the traditional lineups and the amazing deli perks (pickles).

Aside from the amazing deli treats, the atmosphere at Schwartz's is what truly makes this place such a Montreal staple. It's one of the few places in the city where noone really cares about how you're dressed or who you're with, as long as you've got an appetite and plenty of time to wait in line you're good to go.

Asking for "lean" is a faux pas. Always keep your smoked meat FATTY. Don't worry, it is unhealthy anyways so go for it! Best pickles in the city.

They have great, huge, full sours. Second place: Snowdown Deli.
