Kaizen Sushi BarThe Best Sashimi in Montreal

Rated this place:

Accomplished sushiphiles determine the quality of all Sushi restaurants by the level of freshness and variety of the Sashimi offered by the Chef(s) of the house. There can be no fooling the tongue and nose with sauces, spices and other culinary tricks as that which is possible with maki and nigiri as practiced by many Pan-Asian Chefs different renditions of Japanese cuisine. Sashimi is the true test and Kaizen Sushi Bar has been the unchallenged champion in this arena for a very long time in Montreal as well as in most parts of North America. Kaizen's Master Chef Antonio Park has further upped the ante with his recent introduction of Line Caught Fish from the great fish markets of Tokyo. Comparing this hand caught fish by traditional Japanese fisherman to the vast amounts of commercial fish caught in mile long nets by monster trawlers which traumatize the fish in the long process. One can truly taste the differences in taste, aroma and textures. This experience always knocks my socks off! Kaizen excels in all other aspects of seafood, but the Sashimi places it in a category all by it's self. I am sooooo happy it exists in Montreal and in my universe. Bravo Kaizen Sushi Bar...i can taste the Love.

Kaizen

Kaizan is a sushi lover’s dream. The vast selection of quality sushi, including a number of rolls made with the restaurants famous spicy sauce, is accompanied by a stellar wine list and menu items like the Kobe Beef Gyozas you won’t soon forget. Sunday brunch is always popular, and it’s a great place for a business luncheon for those that work in the area. Kaizan’s miso soup is a bit too complicated for my liking, although I’m sure many would like the kelp and seaweed garnish, and the enoki and shitake mushrooms. Personally, I prefer the tofu, wakame and scallion instant add-water variety, chock full of msg and sodium. Check the online schedule for nights featuring live Jazz but don’t fret if you can’t get to the restaurant, Kaizan also has takeout and delivery service, Sushi-à-Go-Go.

Sushi

Rated this place:

Wonderful atmosphere with a live jazz band playing. Sitting at the sushi bar was a real treat too watching the friendly chefs work their magic. Highlights were mixed seaweed salad and the spider sushi (made with soft-shelled crab). I miss their sister restaurant Petit-Tree House (closed down a few years ago) which had more exotic experimental sushi, but Kaizen is still a real gem.

Sushi

Rated this place:

The sushi is excellent quality and the combinations of flavours are creatively genius and delicious. The highlights for me were the lobster rice rolls, tuna sashimi in lemon ginger sauce, and the tempura dipped tuna roll. These guys take sushi very seriously and their passion for excellence shows in every dish.
