I like to come down there every time my Irish genes kick in and I crave Guinness. It's a great place, small and usually crowded, but the decor makes you feel like you're in a pub in Ireland, and the selection of beer doesn't disappoint. It's gritty without being seedy and has atmosphere without being pretentious. The bar staff are super friendly too, and you can pay with your debit card! I definitely have a soft spot for this place.

British soul and Irish beer

It's almost as if the Cloak and Dagger doesn't know who it's catering to: The beer menu and prices suggest an older crowd, but the events -- a DJ spinning British soul, readings, etc -- feel University-ish. Whatever. It's got character: No table service but friendly bartenders who'll let you sample beers before buying, black walls, plus a resident dog who hangs out in the aisle between seats and patiently lets you pet him; a good place for drinks and conversation.

They've got, like, 20 beers on tap. That fact and a great location are what make this place worth mentioning. Otherwise, all I can say is, it's a pretty good place to get your drunk on if you're young, foolish and lookin' for a real down-and-dirty downtown partyhole. Plain and simple.
