Raw and cosy

Rated this place:

As a flexitarian vegetarian, I've been raw-curious for a long time now, and make it to Live (which is closer to my house) fairly often. Now that the weather's bike-friendly, I decided to make the trip out to the Junction to try out Rawlicious and I'm glad I did. My group of four had a great experience - friendly service, an extremely comfortable and peaceful patio, and, above all, great food. We started with the nachos and nori rolls - both good - and each got different entrees: the lasagna, two kinds of wraps and pizza all got positive reviews. For dessert we split the pecan pie (with a date-based filling), chocolate-walnut brownie (with a magical agave-coconut icing) and my favourite, the mocha "cheesecake" - so light and fluffy that you'd swear it included egg whites or dairy. What I love most about eating at places like this is the absence of the post-meal heavy feeling - you feel nourished, rather than feeling like a nap. If you live in the Junction, make use of Rawlicious - I only wish it could be my neighbourhood hangout. See Full Post

A Raw High

Rated this place:

Whether you are a raw foodie, or someone who could not imagine what raw food even could be, you must try this small spot in the Junction. The Nori Rolls (read: sushi without the rice) are fantastic, the nachos (dehydrated carrot, flax and buckwheat) served with 3 little bowls of guacamole, salsa and "sour cream" (made from nuts and not dairy) and sides of green onions, hot peppers (but not too hot, just fresh) and olives are great for sharing. The zucchetti as an entree is wonderful - if I describe it and you are not used to raw food, you might not try it, but i'll tell you that it's the best bowl of not-pasta! (you have the choice of 3 sauces) Make sure you try the desserts...each is better than the next, but the maple Walnut Ice "Cream" will wow you (remember, nothing served at Rawlicious has refined sugars or dairy...including their cheesecake...seriously). The team at rawlicious is certainly passionate about what they offer and strive to do the best they can with supporting local and organic. They run documentary nights, private parties, manage take-out and catering, and are honest when they say that they are there to inspire and serve great tasting, healthy food. Go enjoy, and then take a friend back. Rah Rah for Raw!

Hard to be rah-rah about all raw

Rated this place:

When Rawlicious is not trying to bend reality, some of the food is dynamite.

A thick, crunchy collard leaf makes a perfect wrap for a nut loaf ($9), with lots of onion and tomato bursting out of it. Corn chip-like crackers made of flax, carrot and buckwheat come with a salsa (no need to substitute anything), guacamole and "sour cream" ($12).

For those who are uninitiated, but not to dwell on it, the belief central to rawism is that raw food contains digestive enzymes beneficial to our ability to process the food's nutrients that would otherwise be lost in the cooking process. I'm not here to debate that, only to see if these restaurants have food that tastes good.

And most people who subscribe to this are not zealots... See Full Post

The crackers are amazing and served as chips on their nacho platter. They are too good to try and explain, just go try them.

For those in the west end, now you have the chance to see what the fuss is all about! Raw food… that is so yummy. Kids really get into eating fresh sprouts, raw pizza and rice paper rolls. A small but cozy place that will have you going back for more. I tried their ‘hot chocolate’ once when I met a friend there. Wow, it was so rich and healthy as it didn’t have any sugar in it and was made with raw cacao (one of the most nutrient rich foods there is!) so I didn’t feel guilty. They are branching out and now also have special documentary nights.
